The Dog House Slot Review
Released in February 2019, this game can be played at online casinos such as Rizk, Casumo or Mr Green.
Theme and basic information
The Dog House comes with a somewhat unusual theme for Pragmatic Play. The developer is known for their more or less generic themes that are solid but hardly exciting or visually outstanding.
With The Dog House we get a quirky theme with a bunch of funny looking dogs that are at home in the suburbs. It’s a lovely sunny day, the neighbourhoods is great for children and pets and the gigantic dog house is home to a Doberman, a Pug, a Terrier and a Dachshund. It’s cute. And if you love dogs, this is the slot for you.
The background music is light and easy to listen to, reminding us of spring somehow.
The generic playing card symbols from 10 to A are the low-value symbol. There’s also a dog bone and a collar besides the four dogs. The Doberman is worth the most for 5 on a payline. He pays out 37.5x our stake for such a win. The Terrier still pays out 25x our stake and the Pug is worth 15x our stake. The Dachshund follows last with 10x our stake for 5 of his kind.
You can play this game from 0.20 per spin to 100.00 per spin.
Wilds with multipliers
The wild is the doghouse and it lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It typically comes with a 2x or 3x multiplier attached, which is quite handy as it is the only thing that brings any significant wins in the base game and it is also the only real feature here.
The multiplier can combine on a payline, meaning the maximum combined multiplier would be 9x, if we get 3 wilds with a 3x multiplier.
Free spins with sticky wilds
Land the bejewelled Paw scatter on reels 1, 3 and 5 and the free spins are triggered. We get 5x our bet as a win as well. And then we’re inside the doghouse, where the Doberman spins some reels that determine the number of free spins we are going to get. Each reel offers between 1 and 3 spins. That means, with 9 reels, we get a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 27 spins. In reality, it’s somewhere in between, of course.
During the free spins, the wilds continue to land only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and they still come attached with the 2x and 3x multiplier. However, now the wilds will remain locked into their position once they land. In theory, you could end up with 9 wilds on the three middle reels, which would give you some awesome wins. Mostly, you’re likely to see 4 or 5 wilds, if you managed to get at least 15 free spins.
A maximum payout of 6,750x our stake is possible with the right combination of Dobermans and 3x multiplier wilds on the reels.
Conclusion: A silly slot for serious dog lovers
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for The Dog House is 96.51%, which is excellent. However, this is a very volatile slot, so don’t expect to see wins on every spin. Or even on every other spin. Whilst the reels spin fast, wins can be elusive, though the multiplier wilds can be helpful.
The real action is in the free spins, but those may be challenging to trigger. During our first session, we played over 300 spins before getting the free spins. The next time we were luckier, seeing them triggered twice within 100 spins. Though we managed to get between 12 and 18 spins, our wins were not massive due to a lack of multiplier wilds.
But the potential is there. The Dog House is a little silly, a little quirky and appealing to those dog people among us who like a highly volatile slot that has big winning potential.
