Ancient Warriors Slot Review
Theme and general information
Ancient Warriors comes with an Asian theme, though it’s far from the usual Asian fare we typically get. This is a very modern-looking slot in bright neon colours that reminds us of video games with some great animations and a very sleek style.
Whilst the action is set in a Pagoda, we get a stylised landscape in the background that is case in darkness, and “see-thru reels”, which is really nothing new as it simply means the reels are transparent. Those ancient warriors that give the game its name are visible behind the regular reel symbols.
The setup of the reels is also somewhat unusual as we get 4 reels that are 6 rows high with a total of 50 paylines. These paylines pay all ways, mind you, just as long as three matching symbols line up along those paylines beginning on the first or second reel or even from right to left if you prefer.
On the reels, we find low value J to A card symbols and stylised animals, which include a snake, cat, monkey and what looks to be a dragon. They all have the same payout value, giving us 0.75x our stake for 4 of a kind. And yes, that is awfully low.
The wild is the Yin Yang symbol and there are two different scatters, one is a gold coin-like symbol and the other a neon blue coin symbol that includes some Chinese characters.
This game can be played from 0.20 to 115.00 per spin.
Trigger stacked multipliers in the base game
The golden scatter is actually the Feature Symbol, which needs to land in stacks of 3, 4 or 5 symbols to transform into the Yin Yang wilds.
Additionally, there are Stacked Multipliers that also land in stacks of 3, 4 or 5 symbols. When that happens, the ancient warrior lurking behind the transparent reel will jump into action (very video-game style) and add a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x to the stack of symbols on his reel.
Both features may be active on the same spin during the base game.
Ancient Warriors Bonus Spins
We need three of the other scatter to trigger 5 free spins. If one of the modifiers lands on the reels now, it will be locked in place, where it turns wild and remains on the reel for the duration of the free spins.
If you manage to collect three locked wilds on one reel, the symbols will then be turned into a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x, remaining locked in place as well.
Each scatter that now lands will add +1 free spin up to a maximum of 10 free spins.
Verdict: A good-looking slot that lacks substance in the long run
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Ancient Warriors is 96%, which is a solid average, though this is a highly volatile slot. Still, the hit rate is nearly 30%, which is unexpected and quite good.
Ancient Warriors is definitely a good-looking slot with a certain appeal. Especially gamers will probably like this one, though it looks cool even if you are not of the gaming crowd.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable game to play for a little while as you wait to trigger the free spins (which can take a long time). The features in the base game show up often enough to keep us entertained. But what does bug us are the low payouts, which are not always helped by the multipliers and the low potential of just 1,807x our stake as the maximum win.
You can play this game all you like and let yourself be wowed by the visuals, but if you can’t win much in the long run, you will likely move on sooner rather than later.
