The theme of Arcane Gems is difficult to specify. There’s an air of mystery, exploration, perhaps even adventure. We’re looking at a box that opens up to us as we launch the game. Inside are the reels and symbols shaped as gems. We get the impression that there’s a puzzle here that needs to be solved.
The box sits on a table, surrounded by scattered coins, a map and a sextant. Solve the puzzle of the box and perhaps a treasure is unlocked? We don’t know for sure.
The graphics are not quite up to the usual Quickspin standard. Somehow, everything looks a little rough around the edges, almost as if the developer didn’t have the time to complete the product.
The soundtrack, however, is well done. It adds to the atmosphere just nice as the piano plays away with an air of mystery as well.
The low value symbols are gems shaped as card suit symbols as well as number of other random gems that are bigger and brightly coloured in green, yellow, red, pink and a blue diamond. The latter is the highest value symbol that pays out 25x our stake for 5 on a payline.
Speaking of paylines, whilst there are only 9, three symbols lining up anywhere on these paylines on adjacent reels will create a win. This is sorely needed as the game is lacking wild symbols.
We also don’t get scatters.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 50.00 per spin.
Whenever a winning combination is created on the reels, the symbols of that combination will be locked in place and we get a free re-spin. As long as more matching symbols land on the reels, the re-spins will continue.
If more than 1 winning combination lands on the reels, only the one with the highest value is kept.
Additionally, when a reel is completely filled with winning symbols a random multiplier of between 2x and 5x is added above the reels. If more than one reel receives such a multiplier, they will be added (not multiplied) once wins are paid out. Thus, you can get a maximum of 25x if all reels are stacked with winning symbols.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Arcane Gems is 96.05%, which is average. This game comes with a medium volatility, meaning you should see some wins fair regularly.
When the re-spins get going, especially on the high value symbols, the excitement of the game can certainly crank up a notch. But often we only get the low values in winning combinations and they don’t yield great results. In fact, the gameplay became so repetitive for us, that we set the game to auto-play and ended up only glancing at it here and there.
As such, we nearly missed our epic win of nearly 300x our stake thanks to the Diamonds on the reels and three multipliers in place.
Overall, the game can potentially pay out 5,625x our stake, which is quite good for such a simple slot. You probably won’t get to see much more than what we did here, though. And whilst there isn’t much to complain about in this game (apart for the shoddy graphics), we also found nothing much that would make us recommend it to you.
