It’s not difficult to guess whose court we are at when we hear “Arthur”. The mythical king of old is once again the hero of his own slot, bringing along a few of his trusted knights and his queen Guinevere. Even Merlin makes an appearance, and a welcome one at that.
It would appear we’re looking at legendary Camelot in the distance up a hill, whilst plenty of tents are scattered about along the plains. Not sure if a campaign is underway or not, but the whole scene looks relatively peaceful.
We get the usual high visual standard that we appreciate from Yggdrasil slots and a nice medieval soundtrack as well.
On the reels, we find low value playing card symbols from 10 to A in a medieval sort of font. High values are a young and an older gentleman as well as a knight in full armour. The king and queen are the highest value symbols, where Arthur pays out 12.5x our stake for 5 of a kind. Wilds or transformed wilds pay 27.5x our stake, however.
The regular wild is also the scatter in this game.
You can play this game from a low 0.04 to 100.00 per spin.
On any spin in the base game up to 10 symbols can be transformed into wild symbols. There’s nothing in particular that triggers this feature, it just randomly happens before a given spin. A wheel that contains all reel symbols will appear above the reels and show stop on the symbols that are to be transformed. I may do so once, twice, three times and more.
On average, we’ve gotten between 1 and 3, but all are possible. The wild transformations last for 1 spin only.
Additionally, an orb symbol can land on the reel, which makes Merlin appear and trigger Merlin’s Orb feature. Now we either get a coin prize of up to 500 coins. Or we get between 1 and 14 free spins with 1 to 3 wild transformations. In the base game, you will usually get coin prizes.
You need at least three scatter wilds to trigger the free spins. Or you are lucky when Merlin shows up and hands out free spins.
If you trigger them via the scatters, the number of wild scatters determines how many spins and how many wild transformations you get:
Now the transformations are active for the durations of the spins. Plus, if more scatters land on the reels, you get more free spins and more transformations:
To make matters even more interesting, Merlin’s Orb feature remains active as well and he can either give us a coin prize of up to 1,000 coins or we get 1 to 14 additional free spins.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Arthur’s Fortune is 96.2%, which is solid for a slot that us quite volatile. The hit rate at a little over 22% is also quite good. And whilst the wild transformations don’t show up that often in the base game, you will see them enough to make things a little more interesting instead of not having them at all.
The free spins, of course, can be awesome if you manage to collect further scatters and get more wild transformations. You can score great wins with just three extra wilds in the game, but more is easily possible and the maximum payout is 10,850x our stake, which makes this game more than worthwhile.
In many ways Arthur’s Fortune is a lot simpler than many of their other slots. And whilst it looks good, we’ve also seen truly epic slots from Yggdrasil. Arthur’s Fortune comes with effective features, however, and it is more fun to play than you might initially expect.
