4Squad Slot Review
Released in May 2020, this game can be played at online casinos such as PlayOjo, Rizk or LeoVegas.
Theme and general information
Red Tiger takes on the superhero theme with 4Squad. Perhaps paying tribute to the Fantastic Four, we get four superheroes in this game, though none we would know from any franchise. Of course, superheroes are super popular, which is attested by the dozens of superhero movies out there, not to mention thousands of comic books.
Red Tiger has created their own set of superheroes, each one with a unique ability that comes into play during the game. We get into that below, of course.
The slot is a good-looking one, but Red Tiger usually knows what they are doing in that area. We’re looking up some skyscrapers in a hyper modern city, the superheroes are all distinct and the low value symbols are futuristic versions of card suit symbols.
The four superheroes are Quake (green), Strike (blue), Burst (red) and Beam (yellow). The card suit symbols correspond in colour with green clubs, blue diamonds, red hearts and yellow spades. This becomes important when it comes to the triggering the features.
This is a grid slot that plays out on a 7×6 grid with 42 symbols. Clusters of at least 5 matching symbols pay out when they are touching vertically or horizontally. And is the case with such slots, winning symbols are removed to make room for new ones falling in from above and creating cascading wins.
Beam is the most valuable of the four heroes, paying out 9x our stake for a cluster of 20 or more symbols. The single most valuable symbol in the game is the golden fist, however, which is worth 50x our stake for a cluster of 20 or more.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 80.00 per spin.
4 Heroes and 4 Features plus a Superhero Mode
You will notice during gameplay that the four superheroes have progress bars around their images above the reels. Clusters of at least 5 superheroes or 5 low value symbols that correspond in colour will contribute towards filling those progress bars.
Once the progress bar is filled, which must happen within a set of cascading wins otherwise it will reset on the next spin, the feature of that superhero is activated.
- Beam – Shows up when his yellow progress bar is filled and will award a random multiplier between 2x and 10x.
- Burst – He shows up when the red progress bar is filled and will randomly clone symbols on the grid, hopefully creating big enough clusters to create wins.
- Strike – When her blue progress bar is filled, Strike will randomly zap symbols on the grid and turn them wild.
- Quake – Quake shows up when his green progress bar has been filled and he will destroy all low value symbols, leaving only the high pays.
Should all four progress bars be filled within a set of cascading wins, the Superhero mode will be activated and after Quake does his thing, all the others will do their thing in turn.
Verdict: A cluster slot that is fun but never manages to get going to reach its full potential
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of 4Squad is 95.72%, which is normal for a Red Tiger slot but somewhat below average. The slot comes with a medium volatility and a maximum payout of 1,279x our stake, which is subpar.
Overall, 4Squad is quite well executed and fun to play, especially when the superheroes get to do their thing and even more so when they each get to apply their features in turn. Just one active superhero makes it easy to trigger the others as well and things can get going for a little while.
But where cluster slots are concerned, 4Squad doesn’t reach the potential of many other similar grid slots, which is also clear in the maximum win that is possible here. If you like superhero slots, you can give 4Squad a try, especially if you don’t need the highest volatility and prefer something a little gentler. But hard hitters who prefer the full force of what cluster slots can be capable of, will probably give this one a pass.
