The Shadow Order comes with a mystery theme. We get the secret society of the Shadow Order with its four members Molly, Billy, Archie and Amarillo, who all have special skills and need to be unlocked as you keep playing.
The graphics are absolutely fantastic and carry the atmosphere awesomely. Visually, it’s certainly one of Push Gaming’s best slots. And the sound fits in well with the theme, too, there’s tension and mystery. You can keep it playing in the background easily and it adds to the gameplay.
Plus, the details in the background and on the reels is beautifully done as well. We get the All-Seeing-Eye as part of the wild symbol and 5 in a cluster pay 300x our stake, which is the highest-paying symbol of all. The glowing gold coin is worth 120x for such a win and the book follows with 80x for 5 of a kind. The cryptex pays out 60x our stake for 5 in a cluster.
We also get three chess figures, which is a nice departure from many standard symbols. Finally, seals with A, K and Q are the lowest value symbols.
Another special symbol that will randomly land on the reels is the ring. Collect them in the meter below the character appearing on the right-hand side and you can unlock new characters.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 100.00
Sometimes the base game feels a little slow. You get wilds here and there and the symbols that are part of a winning combination will disappear and make room for new symbols from above for cascading wins.
Considering the many random features that can be triggered either by the orbs or the characters, things can be a little frustrating when nothing much happens for dozens of spins.
The Orb features are triggered when an orb sits in one of the hot spots marked on the grid of symbols. Also, orbs act as wilds in winning combinations:
The character features appear completely randomly at any point in the base game:
To trigger the free spins, all three orbs will need to have fallen onto the reels and wander down into the spot in the bottom right-hand corner, where they disappear through a gate, if you will. You’ll get 5 free spins now and all three orbs are fully charged. When they drop on the reels, they will stay there instead of disappearing again as they do in the base game, when no further cascading wins move the orbs downwards.
Whenever an orb reaches the last tile in the bottom right-hand corner, the multiplier climbs by 1x. The free spins start with a 2x multiplier. If you manage to collect all three orbs, you get 2 additional spins.
Whilst not many spins are played, the cascading wins can result in good wins here.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of The Shadow Order 96.51%, which is great value. The slot has medium volatility but can sometimes feel higher. The game looks fantastic and the theme is great. The gameplay, when in full swing, is very entertaining as well.
Push Gaming definitely delivers a completely original slot here, which they haven’t really managed since Jammin’ Jars. Indeed, The Shadow Order was a long time in the making and it shows. Sometimes the game can feel slow, when you never manage to drop the orbs onto the reels. But the potential for big wins is awesome. During the free spins you could win over 24,000x your stake. It might take a while to get going, but it’s certainly a game you will want to try.
