Splendour Forest Slot Review
Released in July 2019, this game can be played at online casinos such as LeoVegas, Casumo or Rizk.
Theme and basic information
With Splendour Forest we get a fantasy or fairy tale theme. It is quite magical, is what we’re trying to say. Set in an enchanted forest, the background music is quite calming, and a few birds are also chirping along. The reels do sound like proper reels when you spin them, though.
On the reels we find a lady in a blue hat, a lantern, a hazelnut, mushrooms and the familiar 10 to A playing card symbols. The golden tree is simultaneously the scatter and the wild in the game.
The lady pays out 500x our stake for 5 on a payline. The lantern is worth 150x our stake for such a win and the mushroom still pays out 80x our stake for 5 of its kind. The hazelnut is worth 50x our stake. So, overall, the wins aren’t actually too bad here, even for the low-value symbols. But we do only get 10 paylines, which means wins are likely to be infrequent.
You can play this game from 0.20 per spin to 100.00 per spin.
Waiting to hit the free spins
Let’s get it out of the way and confirm right now that this is a very volatile game. Sometimes wins will come frequently, other times you will want to bang your head against a solid surface because you’re so frustrated about the lack of wins.
And that’s what makes it worse when playing the base game, which has no special features at all. You’ll be spinning the reels waiting for the free spins to hit. Which may take you 500 spins or some such. That’s at least how long we waited.
The scatter/wild has to land on reels 1, 3 and 5 for 10 free spins to be triggered. And since this game is borrowing its mechanics from the famed Book of Ra slot, we then get to choose among a row of hidden symbols that reveals which symbol will be upgraded to another scatter/wild that expands as long as we get at least two of it on the reels.
What makes this one a little different, however, is the fact that you may get an additional pick, which could then give you another symbol that becomes an expanding scatter/wild.
It’s possible to re-trigger the free spins, however, you won’t be able to pick more symbols to add to your scatter/wild collection.
It is possible to win 6,427x your stake in this game, which is more than either Book of Ra or Book of Dead has to offer.
Conclusion: Big win potential that requires a lot of patience
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Splendour Forest is 95.04%, which is below average these days and leaning much closer to Book of Ra than Book of Dead. It’s also the reason why the base game can feel incredibly slow most of the time and the high volatility of this slot doesn’t help.
But the potential for massive wins in the free spins is definitely there. We played hundreds and hundreds of spins on this game and it took forever to trigger the free spins the first time. Once we did, we got one expanding symbol, which gave us a few decent wins. But it didn’t wow us and whilst the theme is pretty enough, the whole game didn’t excite us enough to stick with it. If you manage to score a big win, you’ll be happy you tried it out. But be sure to watch your budget and walk away if you keep losing or as soon as you scored that one big win.
