Ring of Odin Slot Review
Released in April 2020, this game can be played at online casinos such as Rizk, Unibet or Royal Panda.
Theme and general information
If it’s not ancient Egypt, it’s Norse mythology. The latter isn’t necessarily Play’n GO’s favourite theme, but they do epic pretty well and have done no less with Ring of Odin. The All-Father is at the centre of this slot and they’ve done a fantastic job at delivering a stunning game.
Visuals are simply superb and the details you can discover are awesome. When the game loads, we get a quick glimpse of Asgard before the reels take centre stage, flanked by two warrior statues. The orchestral soundtrack adds to the epic feel, of course.
On the reels we are glad to find no card symbol anywhere in sight. Instead, the low value symbols show various runes, which suits the theme very well. The high value symbols show wolves, Odin’s ravens, an eight-legged horse and Odin’s spear Gungnir, with which he never missed. One-eyed Odin himself is the wild in this game. His spear and the wild are worth the most with 30x our stake for 5 of a kind.
The scatter is sort of a mechanical version of Odin’s eye. You may remember that he gave one of his eyes up to achieve ultimate wisdom. The scatter looks great and the details are just wonderful.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 100.00 per spin.
Draupnir Re-Spins
Odin’s Ring triggers the main base game feature. It can randomly appear on the reels and will always land on the middle position of reel 3. Whichever symbol lands on the next spin in that ring, will be the chosen symbol to feature during Draupnir Re-Spins. Draupnir, by the way, is the name of Odin’s magical ring, which had the ability to multiply itself. Clearly, someone at Play’n GO did their homework here.
We now get a free re-spin with a grid of rings laid out on the three middle reels. The chosen symbol that was previously determined will hopefully land in one or more of the nine rings. However many times it lands, that will then be the number of further re-spins we get.
During the re-spins, the grid of nine rings is completely filled with the chosen symbol, meaning only symbols on reels 1 and 5 are spinning. Here we want more of the same symbol or the wild to land. With a little luck and up to 9 re-spins, we can get multiple 5-of-a-kind wins.
The feature sounds more complicated than it really is and it makes regular appearances.
Free Spins and Multiplier Free Spins
Free spins are triggered by the scatter landing on reels 1, 3 and 5. Initially, we get 4 free spins. During the free spins, Odin’s Ring feature is always active, which means Draupnir Re-Spins can additionally be triggered on every spin.
Every scatter that now lands will also award +1 free spin.
Moreover, if scatter lands in Odin’s Ring when the feature is triggered in the base game, we receive the Multiplier Free Spins. Initially, we also get 4 free spins. To determine the multiplier, we get one re-spin during which scatters will spin on reels 2, 3 and 4. Any scatters that now land in the grid of those nine rings of Odin will add to the multiplier. The maximum number is 9x. That multiplier will be active for the duration of the free spins, though it cannot be increased further. Again, every scatter landing during the free spins will add +1 spin to the counter.
Conclusion: An epic slot with engaging gameplay and good potential
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Ring of Odin is 96.2%, which is great but can be lowered by casinos depending on their licenses. Overall, this slot is volatile, but not as bad as other Play’n GO slots.
The maximum potential sits at 5,000x our stake or €500,000 in a single spin.
Ring of Odin is a great video slot from Play’n GO. It’s epic, stunningly rendered and the gameplay is engaging. It never gets boring. The potential is good, though not as great as we’ve seen in other slots from Play’n GO, but there’s nothing to complain about here.
If you like Norse mythology, you should definitely try this one out as well. The free spins can be quite surprising and good wins are possible. Even the Draupnir Re-spins can be generous, especially if the wild happens to be the chosen symbol.
