What could a slot titled “Atlantis” possibly be about? You’d basically have to have grown up on the dark side of the moon never to have heard of Atlantis, the mythical continent that sunk into the sea thousands of years ago. Either the gods served out a punishment to the arrogant people of Atlantis, who claimed to have god-like abilities and technologies themselves, or a massive volcano outbreak sunk the island in a random event.
Whatever may be the case, adventurers and treasure seekers have hoped to find Atlantis for hundreds of years, if not longer, and even scientists wonder what truth there may be to the legend.
Underwater realms are popular as slot themes and this is where Red Tiger takes us with this slot. We’re at the bottom of the sea, a few treasures and gold coins scattered below the reels and the ancient ruins of Atlantis bare visible in the background. The scene is set nicely, and the soundtrack is tranquil. It may not be their most impressive looking slot, but it does look good and we can guess at the riches the sunken city may hold.
The symbols on the reels are surprisingly bright and colourful. We get low value card suits and the high value symbol show an anchor, a shell, an old-fashioned telescope, a gold chalice, and Atlantis in all its splendour itself. The latter is worth 5x our stake for five of a kind.
This slot uses cascading wins, which means winning combinations pop off the reels to make room for new symbols to fall in from above.
The treasure chest is a special symbol that we’ll explain below. And the Gold Spins scatter is just that.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 20.00 per spin.
Look out for the treasure chest, which is the most important feature in this game. It’s active in the base game and the gold spins. When it lands anywhere on the reels, it will eventually plop down to the bottom row (either landing there in the current spin or held over for the next spin) and pop open to turn the reel it is on completely wild.
The stack of wilds can also have a multiplier of up to 5x. Whether you get one or not is completely random, mind you.
The Gold Spins are triggered by landing three scatters on the reels. We now get 10 free spins to start off with the fun. The treasure chest continues to appear and do its thing. But now a multiplier is not reset between spins.
So, if you get a treasure chest on your second spin and a multiplier of 2x once the wild reel pops out, the treasure chest will disappear on the next spin as usual. But when it drops down on the reels again (which it will do more often now), it will then have at least a 3x multiplier but can be stocked up by a 5x multiplier as well.
Thus, whenever the treasure chest now lands, the multiplier will continue to grow and there’s no limit to how high it can go.
Additionally, whenever a Gold Spins scatter lands now, it will add +1 spin to our counter, which helps us getting more treasure chests and a continuously higher multiplier.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Atlantis is 95.77%, which is average for Red Tiger, though not at all excellent. Atlantis is a highly volatile slot, but wins seem to hit with a surprising frequency, even though they’re often only smaller. The wild reel and multiplier help with that when they land.
In many ways (also partly thanks to the soundtrack), Atlantis feels like a mellow slot. The game only gets exciting during the Gold Spins and triggering those is a difficult feat. But it is worthwhile as you can easily end up playing 20 free spins and get to a multiplier of 13x or higher. We certainly enjoyed our wins of over 170x our stake, though 5,202x our stake is possible in this slot.
Atlantis doesn’t reinvent the wheel (or the slot), but it offers some decent gameplay and great wins here and there.
