Dragonz Slot Review
Dragonz is a video slot from Microgaming with 5 reels and 243 ways to win. That means, any three matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left-most reel will yield a winning combination. You may be able to play Dragonz at Zet Casino, bwin or Unibet Casino.
Theme and game basics
If you liked the movies from the “How to train a dragon” franchise, you’ll like this Dragonz slot. The adorable bunch of dragons look like they could have been featured in a Pixar or Disney movie (which is the same nowadays) and are now the heroes of this little Microgaming slot. The game looks great and the background music makes for a relaxing soundscape. Flint, Switch, Frost and Gobble are the names of the dragons and they’re the high-paying symbols. Flint and Switch (red and purple) pay 125 coins in a 5-of-a-kind win, whereas Frost and Gobble pay still 62.50 coins for such a winning combination.
The wild and scatter symbols, however, are even more valuable, if you get five of them. The wild will pay out 150 coins and five scatters pay a staggering 1,000 coins. Two of them will already yield a win and three are required to trigger the free spins.
The generic playing card symbols are utterly boring in this slot and visually a letdown. Microgaming could have really chosen something a little more suitable for the theme.
Gameplay and features
The base game gives us one random feature that will surprise you every once in a while. In order to trigger the Wild Deal feature, you’ll have to have landed a wild on the third reel on a non-winning spin. If that happens, additional wilds will be dealt to the reels in such a way that a win is guaranteed.
Beyond that, this game is all about the free spins features of which there are four. When you get at least three scatters, you’ll trigger one of the four features randomly. Once you’ve managed to trigger the free spins 12 times, you’ll be able to choose which feature you want to play.
Flint – You get 10 free spins and the little dragon Flint will fire fiery wilds randomly at the reels, which may or may not yield a winning combination. He won’t fire on every spin either.
Switch – Once again 10 free spins are handed out and wilds are collected and stashed. You’re guaranteed a win after three spins if you’ve collected at least three wilds from non-winning spins.
Frost – Here, too, you get 10 free spins, where Frost will freeze wilds into place until they become part of a winning combination.
Gobble – The green dragon will also come with 10 free spins and every once in a while he’ll spit a wild onto the reels, which will guarantee you a winning combination.
Conclusion
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Dragonz is 96.46%, which is very good value for a Microgaming slot. The theme is fun, and the dragons are adorable. If it weren’t for the generic playing card symbols, we’d be utterly delighted with the execution of it. Seeing the dragons in action during their individual features is quite worthwhile, however.
The Wild Deal feature helps keeping things going but waiting for the free spins to activate can be a little bit tedious. Plus, your success with the free spins can be hit and miss and we found Switch and Frost to be the better options. Having to wait a dozen free spin rounds to be able to choose your favourite feature can take forever as well, but at least you’ll know them all by heart by then. Dragonz is a game you should give a try, if you like dragons. Eventually you may want to go for something a little more reliable in terms of triggering the free spins.
