Mayan Eagle Nobleways Slot Review
The game is played on 6 reels and 15,625 ways to win. Released in July 2020, this game can be found at online casinos such as Guts, Royal Panda or LeoVegas.
Theme and general information
We’re once again heading for the Yucatan peninsula and the ancient culture of the Mayans with this slot. Pyramids, temples and a jungle are making for a pleasant backdrop in the evening sun in this game. It’s nicely drawn, albeit rather static.
The drums set the beat in this slot, adding to the overall atmosphere in the gameplay. And whilst the game does look pleasant enough, it’s also somewhat boring. We’ve seen much more interesting Mesoamerican themed slots.
The symbols are quite bright, but still somewhat pale, which may be owed to the fact that they’re set in grey rock. We get low value card symbols from 9 to A and high value Mayan bird abstracts in green, blue, red and gold. The latter is worth the most with 50x our stake for 6 on a payline.
The wild shows us a step pyramid and only appears on reels 2 through 5. There is also a mystery symbol, which is a golden Mayan mask. Finally, we get the scatter symbols, which spell out M, A, Y and A.
Bets can be placed from 0.20 to 20.00 per spin.
Rolling Reels, Mystery Symbols and the Nobleways Mechanic
Maya Eagle Nobleways features the Rolling Reels mechanic, which is just another word for our avalanche wins and cascading symbols. Whenever a winning combination is formed, the symbols that are part of the win are removed and new ones fall in from above. There is no multiplier in place in the base game, however.
The Mystery Symbols appear randomly on any spin and will all transform into the same reel symbol. Usually, you get at least 8 Mystery Symbols, though they only land on the initial spin, but not on consecutive Rolling Reels spins should wins form.
The Nobleways Mechanic touted prominently in the title of the game is actually nothing special at all. It seems to try and emulate the Megaways Mechanic somehow but fails to do that. We simply get a slot with 6 reels, 5 rows and 15,625 set ways to win. So, any three (or two in the case of the golden bird) matching symbols landing from left to right (starting on the 1st reel) will yield a win. Even though it’s called noble, there is nothing special about this.
Free Spins with increasing Multipliers
We get 12 free spins when M, A, Y, A is spelled out thanks to the golden letters on the reels. Any additional scatter would give us +2 spins on top of that.
The Mystery Symbols are still in the game and we also continue to get wild symbols. The specialty in the free spins is that we now get an increasing multiplier that is applied to every win. With each consecutive win, the multiplier increases by 1x. It starts out at 2x. There is no limit to how high the multiplier can climb and it does not reset on a losing spin.
Also, 4 more scatters (now 1 golden symbol that simply says MAYA) land, we get another 12 free spins.
Verdict: A surprisingly uninspired slot that rewards only the most patient players
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Mayan Eagle Nobleways is 96.32%, which is definitely good, though this slot receive a very high rating in terms of volatility. Interestingly, the hit rate is given at 37.6%, which is also very high.
Do be sure to enable to quickspin mode in the setting, otherwise the game will feel really slow. And given that it can easily take 300 spins and potentially up to 500 spins or more to trigger the free spins, you’ll want to get there sooner rather than later.
Overall, Mayan Eagle Nobleways has nothing new to offer. Yes, calling in Nobleways is new and we hardly get slots with 15,625 set ways to win. But that doesn’t make for compelling gameplay and the low hit rate for free spins requires quite a bit of patience. Check it out to see if you like it or not. But if you don’t, move onto something else.
