Theme and game basics

As the title suggests, we once again get an Ancient Egyptian themed slot, though this is the first of its kind from Push Gaming. The slot manages to look a lot less generic for its theme than many others. The reels are slightly set back, giving more room to the background, which shows a pyramid, blowing desert sands and magnificent Ra standing to the left. The details are rendered beautifully, which makes this a lovely looking game.
On the reels we find Ra himself as the Wild symbol, then there is cat goddess Bastet, jackal-headed Anubis, the Ankh symbol, a sceptre, the Horus eye, a flower and some generic card playing symbols. The Scarab is the scatter and its wings flutter when it lands on the reels. Bastet and Anubis are the highest-paying symbols, though no symbol pays more than the Wild.

Gameplay and features

The base game has one major feature with the stacked Wild, which will nudge down in usually no more than three steps if lands fully on the reels. It can lead to amazing wins, especially if more Wilds land on the reels.
Whilst the Wilds don’t always land fully on the reels and you may therefore not get even one nudge, the feature appears often enough to keep you going during the base game.
You will need at least three Scarab scatters to receive at least 3 free spins. Once the free spins are activated, the scarabs will turn and reveal whether you get 1 or 2 free spins per Scarab. That means you can get between 3 and 10 spins. But even three are enough, because you get three fully wild reels on reel 1, 3 and 5. That means 3-of-a-kind wins are always guaranteed, but you can easily get more than that. And if you get high-paying symbols, wins can be staggering.

Conclusion

The theoretical RTP (return to player) for Blaze of Ra is 96.4%. That’s great value, though not the best among Push Gaming slots. Still, you will usually feel like a winner with Blaze of Ra. Perhaps we are a little biased after playing the game for a little while, because we managed to trigger the free spins 3 times in 200 rounds, which is pretty good. During those instances, however, we only received 4, 3 and 3 free spins, which is not a lot for most other slots out there. But with this one we managed to win a total of 250x our stake and that’s definitely worthwhile. Plus, the game looks good, has a nice little soundtrack and will keep you entertained for a while.
