Troll Hunters 2 is a video slot from Play’n GO with 5 reels and cluster pays. Released in September 2019, the game is currently exclusive to the Kindred Group and can be played at Maria Casino or Unibet.
The original Troll Hunters slot was released 6 years ago and whilst it has aged quite well, Play’n GO deemed it time to give us a sequel. Or perhaps the Kindred Group asked for one as the original slot was also exclusive to them for a long time.
Once again, we join a group of troll hunters in their adventure. Three tough-as-nails female warriors grace the screen, posing intimidatingly to the right side of the reels. They are also featured as the top-paying symbols on the reels themselves, of course.
Snow is falling, the landscape shows snow-covered mountains in the background. Visually, Troll Hunters 2 is certainly a step up from original. The same is true for the sound.
A cluster of 5 of each of the three warriors pays out 10x our stake. However, a cluster of 5 that includes all three warrior women also pays out a winning combination and gives us 5x our stake.
The gold wild symbol is worth the most, paying 50x our stake for a cluster of 5. The remaining symbol are weapons such as a battle axe, a hammer, a sword and we also get a helmet and a horn. These symbols pay out between 2x and 4x our stake for 5 in a cluster.
You can play this game from 0.20 per spin to 100.00 per spin.
The mechanics in Troll Hunters 2 are very much the same as in the previous version. We get exploding wins in this slot, which is somewhat similar to cascading wins. Winning combinations disappear off the reels, but no new symbols fall in from above. The aim is to clear the reels of symbols so that the word BONUS, which moves up and down behind the reel symbols.
Clearing the symbols is made easier by the Wild Transformations. Wins from three of a kind symbols form a wild where the middle symbol was, which is left behind and helps creating more wins.
When three or more warrior women form a winning combination, they can also leave a wild behind, but they will add to the shield meter at the bottom of the left-hand side. When the three sides are filled up, it adds 2x and 3x multiplier wilds randomly to the reels.
Also, thanks to the cascading wins, every win is added to the counter on the left-hand side and increases the multiplier by 1x.
If you manage to clear the BONUS letters from all symbols, the free spins are activated. You can choose between three features:
You take your pick and then the landscape turns dark and stormy and a troll shows up on the right-hand side of the reels. He is big and angry-looking and it’s awesome. As the symbols drop onto the reels and you fill the shield meter thanks to winning combinations, the troll will watch what happens and once the shield meter is full, he adds a Troll Wild (with or without a multiplier depending on the feature you chose) that guarantees a win due to its size. This is the Win Spin feature and as long as you keep getting wins and the Troll remains on the reels, the feature remains active.
It’s possible to re-trigger the Win Spin, but when it ends, you are returned to the regular free spins, where you may trigger a new Win Spin once you fill the shield meter once more.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Troll Hunters 2 is 96.5%, which is excellent. Naturally, though, this is a volatile slot.
Troll Hunters 2 may not give us exciting new features that we’ve never seen before, but the gameplay is entertaining and there is enough going on that it doesn’t get boring, even if you haven’t seen the free spins for some time. Generally, it never took us too long to trigger the free spins though. That said, we played all three free spin features and had similar wins in all of them. In fact, we were slightly better off playing 9 free spins without a multiplier because it gave us more time to trigger a Win Spin on three separate occasions.
If we had to choose between the two Troll Hunters games, we’d opt for the new version, simply because it looks so much better. The graphics are beautiful and make the game more attractive than the first version.
