Theme and game basics

Archangels: Salvation pits the Angels of Heaven against the Demons of Hell. As such this theme is pretty unique. As a fantasy theme not so much, which is what this game looks like in any case. The animations are incredible and the two main characters, the Angel on the left and the Demon on the right, become part of the action on every win. It looks all very cool and is another example of what epic slots from NetEnt look like.
Of course, the Angel and the Demon feature on the reels as well and are the two highest-paying symbols, giving us 150 coins for a win of 6-of-a-kind. The medium win symbols show masks and shields associated with Angel and Demon, and finally we get the card suit symbols (hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds). The lion head stands in as the wild, usually covering 2×2 symbols. And the Salvation logo is the bonus symbol, also two symbols high.
Usually, all symbols come stacked on this unusually large set of 6 reels and 12 rows.

Gameplay and features

The main feature in the base game comes courtesy of the two hot spot areas and the big wild symbol that may fall into either of those areas. If the wild shows up in the top two rows of the reels, the Heaven feature is triggered. Here stacks of wilds will be added to the reels. You get two stacks, if the wild lands partially in the area, and four, if it lands full in the hot spot area.
When the wild lands in the bottom two rows of the reels, the Hell feature is triggered instead. Here the lion wild will spew up to 16 extra wilds anywhere on the reels. If it lands only partially in the area, 8 extra wilds are added.
Also, if any of those extra wild happen to be added inside the other hot spot area, respectively, the corresponding feature is triggered, adding even more wilds to the reels.
The free spins are triggered when 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters land anywhere on the reels, giving you 10, 15, 20 or 25 free spins. The main difference now is that the hot spots are expanded another row, giving you the top three and bottom three rows as hot spot areas, and thus increasing your chance and capturing a wild in these areas.
That’s really the only special thing about the free spin features, which otherwise plays out exactly the same as the base game.

The theoretical RTP (return to player) of Archangels: Salvation is 96.08%, which is one of the lowest we’ve seen from NetEnt in a long time. Considering the stacked reels and 100 paylines, however, winning something is not difficult. Still, the slot is fairly volatile and big wins are infrequent at best. Once the Heaven or Hell features hit and the wilds land in the right spots, you will feel like a winner, though. Especially when the Angel and the Demon happen to be part of the winning combinations. We’ve gotten some pretty decent wins here and the slot promises a maximum win of 9375x our bet.
That said, the free spin features seems almost a little lacklustre and we’ve waited over 200 spins before we finally triggered 10 spins. That does not seem worthwhile at all and we ended up more looking forward to triggering the Heaven or Hell feature, though the latter tends to be more rewarding.
