Microgaming has taken a Victoria classic (written by Edgar Rice Burroughs) that has been made into countless movies, including a Disney movie. And the slot looks mostly like the latter, even though it wasn’t a 3D animated movie at the time. Tarzan is heavy on the graphics with great 3D animation and jungle background. Tarzan himself, a bit of a hapless guy, is standing to the left of the reels, watching what’s going on. He’s jumping around when there’s a win and even does a little victory dance every now and then. It’s adorable and utterly charming.
On the reels themselves we find Tarzan, Jane and Archibald as the highest paying symbols, followed by a leopard, a monkey and a parakeet of some sort, plus fruit such as melons, oranges, plums and apples. It all looks great and shows what the graphics department at Microgaming is capable of.
Collect 5 bonus symbols on the reels to score 100x your stake as a win. The Tarzan wild offers 20x your stake and Tarzan’s character symbol only gives us 12x our stake with all the others considerably less than that.
If you want to get anywhere in this slot, you’ll want to spin at least three bonus wheels onto the reels. Four of five would be better because it could increase cash and jackpot prizes, depending on what the bonus wheel gets you. There are four options:
Free spins – These come with Microgaming’s rolling reels (cascading wins) and growing wilds. More wilds are added to the stacks on every spin and symbols of winning combinations explode to make room for more symbols and hopefully more wins. This can keep you going for longer than the 12 spins you receive.
Pick-a-Potamus – You’re looking at a swamp full of hippos, which you get to choose until you select the “pop”. Every hippo reveals a coin prize. We managed to collect 9 cash prizes once before the 10th ‘popped’.
Cash prizes – Land the bonus wheel on a cash prize partition and you might get 3-6x, 6-12x or 9-18x your stake depending on whether you started the bonus wheel with 3, 4 or 5 scatters.
Jackpot – Once again, depending on whether you started the feature with 3, 4 or 5 scatters, you can hope to win 200x, 400x or 1,000x your bet.
The theoretical RTP (Return to player) for Tarzan is 96.48%. That’s a great value and since the bonus wheel makes a fairly regular appearance, you’ll have the feeling that you’ll be winning often enough. That said, we’ve not managed to score big wins, though those stacked wilds can be a great help with that, especially in the base game, where you only spin away to finally trigger the bonus wheel.
We found, no matter what you get when spinning the wheel, it tends to be good enough to keep you going. There’s only one option to trigger the jackpot, but cash prizes or the two featured bonus games will keep up your budget enough to wait for another round of bonus wheel shenanigans. The slot is quite entertaining and Tarzan himself makes for a charming and fun host.
