Theme and general information

Even if you’ve never played the original Pink Elephant from Thunderkick, the ‘2’ in the title should tell you that this is a sequel. Popular slots these days are just like popular movies: you want to cash in on the success of the first one and, if at all possible, make a sequel. It may not have been the intention when Pink Elephants was released in 2017, but this is where we find ourselves at now.

Sequels can be daunting, of course. Developers can either go all out and turn everything we thought we knew on its head, or they make only a few small tweaks that improve on the original but still leave the sequel recognisable.

This is basically what happened with Pink Elephants 2. Again, we get the prominent pink elephant on the reels. But instead of lemurs and a desert, we now find ourselves with a family of goats somewhere high up in the mountains. Interestingly, those goats look a little like monks. And there’s a certain Nirvana feeling about the scenery. We’re not sure what the scattered ruins indicate in the background, which remind us of ring-shaped objects such as Stargates. These goats don’t look the space-faring kind, though.

In any case, we get a nicely drawn slot and 9 to A playing card symbols as the low-value items. They are glowing and the rings that circle the goats are also glowing. We get a youthful blue goat, a motherly green goat, the father orange goat, an elderly pink goat and the elephant, who is worth the most with 10x our stake for 6 of his kind. He already pays for 2 of his kind on the 6×4 grid of reels with 4,096 ways to win.

The wild symbol is just a pink W, which can land anywhere on the reels.

Free Spins with Symbol Upgrades

There isn’t really anything we can tell you about the base game as you will just be spinning the reels, waiting for the golden peanut scatter (yes, indeed) to land on the reels to trigger the free spins. The Mystery Scatter feature can randomly be activated during the base game and add between 1 and 5 scatters to the reel, thus helping to trigger the free spins.

We get 7, 11, 15 or 19 free spins for three, four, five or six scatters, respectively. The day turns to night and things get interesting. On the left-hand side all four goats are stacked up and get counters. Each pink elephant that now lands on the reels will emit a pink orb that is added to the counter. Once a counter is filled, the goat is taken and upgraded to the next valuable goat. We also get +1 free spin.

Thus, as the four goats get an upgrade one by one, the reels keep spinning and fewer different goats hopefully mean more wins. Scatters continue to land on the reels and two, three, four, five or six scatters will now add 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 spins to our tally.

This helps when upgrading the goat symbols as the final upgrade of the last remaining goat symbol will turn all goats into pink elephants. That’s where the biggest potential in this game for wins can be found but getting there is not easy. Often, you are likely to get at least two upgrades but managing the final one can only be done with additional free spins.

Verdict: A decent upgrade to the first Pink Elephants with increased potential

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Pink Elephants 2 is 96.13%, which is slightly below that of the prequel but still quite decent and above average. Pink Elephants 2 is very volatile, so careful budgeting is a good idea.

Overall, we get a decent sequel with this game. It improves a few things, changes the scenery and can ramp up the excitement during the free spins, which you may hit once every 100 spins if you are lucky. That was our average at least.

In theory, the maximum potential in this game is 10,000x our stake, which can only be achieved in the free spins with tons of elephants on the reels. Whilst we got an okay return playing this slot, it never felt as if the potential would explode, though. It’s a fun little game to try, but don’t get your hopes up.
