UK Gambling Commission Report Shows Notable Growth of the Online Gaming Market

UK Gambling Commission has released a report, which reveals a noticeable improvement in the gaming industry, but especially in the online gaming sector. The numbers cover the period from October, 2014 to September, 2015 and show a gross gambling yield of impressive £12.6 billion. The previous period between April, 2014 and March, 2015 has a figure of £11.2 billion, which is lower for 12.5%.

Around 29% or approximately £3.6 billion of the UK gaming market belongs to online casino, bingo and betting; the growth of this component remains steady. Just like James Green, the director of the Commission explained, this was the first time for a report to include almost a whole year’s worth of data related to online gaming. He also highlighted the large market share held by online gaming components and expressed interest in how the figures would change over time.

In terms of offline gaming, Green pointed out the drop in the number of bingo halls, betting shops and arcades in the past two years. The director didn’t fail to say how important research of consumer participation and market trends was; according to him, this data made it possible for the authorities to keep gambling within the UK safe as well as fair and crime-free.

When it comes to other components, a popular activity among players remains the National Lottery; this segment noted a 2.1% jump to £1.7 billion reserved for good causes. On the other hand, the number of retail betting locations dropped for 1.9% to 8,809 operating shops as of March, 2016. The number of arcades in the country declined as well; as of March, 2015, on the UK territory there were 1,937 arcades, a number higher for 11.1% than the figure of 1,721 arcades in the Kingdom reported in March, 2016.
