March 4, 2016—The Lago Resort and Casino is not open yet. However, it has undergone a slight name change. The Tyre, New York casino is now officially Del Lago Resort and Casino. CFO Jonathan Swain stated, the name is meant to reflect the fact that it is a gateway to New York’s Finger Lakes Region. The resort is a $425 million project. It is located in Seneca County.
Swain told media, “The world-class resort and casino in Tyre, Seneca County, will now be officially named del Lago meaning ‘of the lake,’ as it will serve as a gateway to the magnificent Finger Lakes Region of New York State.”
Swain also stated in the press release, “The newly evolved name reinforces that the resort and casino embodies the essence of the Finger Lakes Region and is a community steward for the entire area encompassing Seneca County and the Great Finger Lakes.”
The casino will have a shop called “Savor New York,” which reinforces the name by offering local beers, wines, spirits, crafts and food.
The name change has come earlier than the resort will be open. The casino is set for its grand opening in February 2017. According to Swain the casino is on target for that date and nothing is in the way of ensuring the casino and resort is opened on the correct date.
At this time, the casino is expecting to employ 1,250 to 1,500 workers. This is a great boom for the area as it means more employment opportunities are soon on the horizon. The tourist dollars from coming to the casino will also help the community of Tyre. Swain did not tell media when they expect to hire these individuals. With a year left, they have time to host job fairs and conduct interviews.
