Florida Legislature working on Gambling Laws

The State Senate and House members are looking over gambling proposals, according to a new release on February 8, 2016. The proposals include at least one option to let the Seminole Tribe add games to their casinos. If the bills are based the tribe can start hosting roulette and craps at their casino.

The bills were introduced on Friday, February 5, 2016. There are three of these bills that are proposing changes. One of the bills requires voter approval before gambling can expand in Florida. The second would make it possible for a new casino to be built in Miami. The third bill requests an opportunity to put slot machines in Palm Beach County.

The Senate is going to discuss the gambling laws during this week, according to News Service of Florida. The Senate Committee on Regulated Industry’s Bradley and Jose Diaz from the Regulatory Affairs board are in charge of two of the bills. Diaz called one of the bills “gargantuan.” He also stated it is a lot like the bill the house is receiving, which is regarding revenue sharing agreements between the State of Florida and the tribe. Governor Rick Scott has already inked the bill and agreed to the bill with the Seminole Tribe.

The compact is set to last for 20 years. It is meant to preserve rights for the tribe regarding blackjack and other house-banked card tables. The casino has the right to offer other table games that do not use cards under the new agreement. The state will receive $3.1 billion in revenue for seven years.

The other bills proposed are designed to do away with laws that are no longer applicable in today’s times, as well as help firm up certain gambling laws that need to protect the state.
