Novomatic is an Austrian company that specialises on slot machines offline and online. They’ve been around for nearly 40 years now, making some of the most beloved games in the gambling industry.
Yes, Novomatic casinos are few and far. But they are by no means as rare anymore as they used to be. Novomatic’s expansion continues to focus on their offline ventures. But the online casino industry is so massive that the company would be remiss to ignore opportunities here.
So more deals are signed with more casinos and the developer will offer their games alongside their competitors. Although it’s quite obvious that that is not their favourite approach.
Here you’ll find online casinos that we can recommend and that offer Novomatic games, sometimes exclusively. If you have suggestions or want us to add a particular casino to the list that we have not covered yet, be sure to let us know.
It was Austrian billionaire Johann Graf, who founded Novomatic in 1980. Back then he wasn’t a billionaire yet, mind you. And back then he built slot machines for land-based casinos and betting shops. It took him only a year to expand into neighbouring countries Germany, France, Switzerland and even the Netherlands (which is not a direct neighbour, of course).
And by 1983 the company had taken their business worldwide.
In the beginning Novomatic ran their own gambling arcades under the ‘Admiral’ brand and even now it’s a type of betting shop commonly found around central Europe. But Novomatic also supplies gambling machines to many other casinos and betting shops.
In 1990 the company founded their Novoline brand and began slowly producing their games for computers.
In 1991 the Admiral Sportswetten GmbH was founded as a 100% subsidiary and the company continued to expand into the world of sportsbetting as well.
The focus was and still is on land-based ventures. Novomatic is operating a significant number of casinos and gambling arcades across Europe and keeps acquiring smaller companies at the same time, continuing its expansion.
Recognising a need to go mobile as well, Novomatic partnered with and later acquired GreenTube, who exclusively produce all mobile titles for the brand.
Another subsidiary, Extreme Live Gaming, now provides live tables for Novomatic as well.

Novomatic is well-known as a provider of offline slot machines. Their online division is actually called Novoline, however. Under that brand all online casino games were developed, though since Novomatic is still the better-known name, you’ll often find their games under the Novomatic handle.
Among the best-known games are most certainly Book of Ra, though nowdays it is mostly the follow-up title Book of Ra Deluxe, Sizzling Hot, Dolphin’s Pearl, Plenty on Twenty or Ultra Hot. Lucky Lady’s Charm and many other games exist as deluxe versions well, which usually add a payline and better sound and graphics to the original versions of the game.
With Novomatic slots you’ll get a feel of classic machines and it is abundantly obvious that the games originate from land-based slot machines. The graphics in the older slots are quite simple with few if any special effects. You get the typical ringing and clinking sound effects from traditional slots and gameplay tends to be straightforward as well. You spin the reels for wins and wait to hit the free spin feature. Bonus games are often just as simple, but promise decent payouts.
For many years Novomatic has fared well with this strategy, but newer and infinitely more modern and innovative developers have entered the market and that means Novomatic has had to up its game as well, which means newer releases tend to be more sophisticated in graphics and gameplay, even though they’re still very recognisably Novomatic games.
Needless to say that their focus in on slot machines and they have produced over 200 through the years. But Novomatic casinos would be incomplete without roulette, blackjack or video poker. You even get 3 Card Brag, but might have to miss out on baccarat. Instead you could enjoy the occasional bingo game, however.
Novomatic even produced an attractive 3D blackjack game, which has a house edge of only 0.55%.
It’s important to note that very few online casinos offer Novomatic games. The developer is extremely picky who they work with. They have a few selected exclusive online casinos such as Stargames, but also work with other casinos that offer barely one or two software providers besides Novomatic, such as Quasar Gaming. Another handful of casinos, however, offer a number of Novomatic slots within their vast portfolios as well.
Novomatic progressive jackpot games are a bit unusual. There are few dedicated jackpots as such. For instance, competitors produce games that have a number of different jackpots linked to them, but you won’t be able to play those games as a version without a jackpot.
Novomatic, however, has quite a few games that you can play with or without a jackpot. Not all casinos will even offer both versions. As it is, you won’t find their progressive jackpots at many casinos to begin with. Thus, whether they’re linked jackpots or not, you’re unlikely to win life-changing sums on them. That said, it is possible that those slots carry jackpots worth several millions, but we rarely hear that they have been won.
That being said, it is definitely possible to win a few hundred thousand, which is certainly not to be sneezed at.
Among the jackpots you may find at online casinos are:
No jackpots
As already mentioned, nowadays Novomatic also has a live casino brand which goes by Extreme Live Gaming. The subsidiary was founded in 2013 and has their headquarters and studios in London.
They provide live tables for roulette, blackjack and baccarat and even provide a so-called ‘Live Box’, which streams from actual land-based casinos in Gibraltar.
Their technology is top-range, which is why you can find Extreme Live Gaming tables at online casinos alongside their competitors and even when no other Novomatic games are offered at that casino.
Additionally you can easily access their live tables via mobile, which is always an advantage nowadays.
When Novomatic recognised the need to also offer their games for mobile players, they decided to partner with GreenTube. Later GreenTube became a subsidiary of Novomatic. They’re still the ones exclusively producing all mobile content for Novomatic.
In the beginning Novomatic had absolutely no experience with mobile platforms and GreenTube was not exactly a pro in the field either. Early mobile games were clunky and offered relatively poor graphics. Thankfully GreenTube grew with the challenge and now produces top-notch games as well.
That means that there’s also a much greater availability of Novomatic games on mobile platforms, much to the delight of mobile gamblers.
Novomatic has grown beyond offering simply a welcome bonus to its customers at online casinos. Slots such as Book of Ra may well be featured at exclusive promotions at a Novomatic casino and quite a few promotions that are run regularly offer free spins, cash or even trips and other bonuses.
Don’t expect Novomatic to go overboard, though. But if you check in regularly at your favourite Novomatic casino, you may just get to enjoy the occasional promotion.
Plus, they’re decent when it comes to loyalty programs, so you might want to check those out.
