Theme and basic information

Yokozuna Clash takes us into the sumo hall where to sumo ringers, Riku und Haru, face each other below the reels, stomping their feet and clashing every once in a while. Graphically, the game is superb, as we have come to expect from Yggdrasil Gaming. It almost seems as if we’re looking at an interactive video game, where we take on the role of either sumo ringer to fight the bigger opponents eventually.

The atmosphere is great, and the martial background music adds to the atmosphere. If you like sports slots, Yokozuna Clash certainly manages to impress.

The purple tiger pays out 10x for such a win and the turtle is worth 8x our stake. The blue dragon still pays out 6x our stake for 5 on a payline. The low-value symbols are the card suit symbols.

243 ways to win, pays both ways and adds random wilds and multipliers

This game has quite a few features, though they are not exactly new or special, at least in the base game. Here we get 243 ways to win on all combinations of 3 matching symbols either from the left-most or from the right-most reel. It is unusual to get a slot that pays both ways on 243 paylines.

Naturally, most wins will therefore be quite small, but thanks to both sumo wrestlers, bigger wins can be possible.

Riku, the one in blue, randomly adds 1 or 2 wilds during the base game when he stomps his feet.

His opponent Haru, the one in green, adds 2x or 3x multiplier randomly in the base game.

Fight through two levels in the free spins

The free spins are triggered when the free spin scatter lands on reels 1 and 5. First, Riku and Haru fight each other to determine which one of them enters the free spin feature. Then you get either Daisuke (adds 1 to 3 wilds during his attacks) or O’Conner (awards a 2x to 4x multiplier on the current win) as your opponent.

Whilst Riku and Haru each have an attack power of 2, their much bigger opponents have an attack power of 3.

The fight begins as the reels stop on each spin. If you get a win from left to right, it counts as an attack by your champion against the opponent. The opponent is then pushed back by two positions. A win from right to left counts for the opponent, of course. It pushes your champion back by three positions.

Free spins continue until either your champion pushes the opponent out of the ring, which then gets him into the second level. Or it ends when your champion is pushed out of the ring by the opponent.

If your champion manages to defeat the first opponent, he will then have to face Yokozuna himself, a monster sumo. His attacks push your champion back by 4 positions. He also adds 2 to 4 wilds and a 2x to 4x multiplier randomly.

Defeat Yokozuna and you will get your final win multiplied by 2x.

Whilst all of this sounds a little complicated, once you start playing, you’ll soon figure the mechanics out and they’re not as complicated at all.

Conclusion: An entertaining slot that only gives out middling wins

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Yokozuna Clash is 96.3%, which is above average and pretty decent. This is a slot of medium volatility. That means, wins tend to be relatively frequent but rarely big. In theory, however, you could win almost 3,500x your stake.

Yokozuna Clash offers a fairly unique free spin feature, which is fun for a little while. The base game doesn’t offer much new, but the combination of features works and result in wins more often than not. The slot can be quite entertaining, especially if you like sports themes.

The free spins bring the most action and fun and with a little luck you can play for quite some time, if you keep getting regular wins from left to right as well as right to left. As long as both fighters stay in the ring, the free spins continue. And it’s also not impossible to fight Yokozuna himself. You won’t always get there, but about half the time we managed to fight against him. We never defeated him, but it would be cool when it happens, because you will have accrued quite a few winnings by then, making a 2x multiplier in the end worthwhile. Our biggest win was about 90x our stake, which is not massive, but it kept us interested anyway.
