It’s not difficult to guess what the theme of this game is even before you load it up. With a December release, we can be sure to get yet another Christmas slot. But the theme has not been used to death just yet and at this time of the year a nice Christmas slot actually gets us a little bit more in the mood for the season.
As it is, Xmas Magic looks as classic as it possible to get. We’re looking at a town decked out in Christmas lights. Night has fallen and, in the distance, we can see snow-capped mountains. On the reels, we find candy canes, snow globes, hot chocolate, Christmas stockings, a stacked mistletoe, a wrapped present that stands in as the wild, and Santa himself who is the scatter.
It’s pretty. And it is also utterly generic, almost dated. There’s nothing modern about this slot. It could have been released years ago, but since the scene is set at what we might guess is the turn of the 20th century, a dated look suits the theme reasonably well. It’s just a little boring, to be honest.
The mistletoe is the highest value symbol, paying out 20x our stake for 5 of its kind. The stocking and the candy cane still pay out 10x our stake for such a win.
There are also low-value symbols from 9 to A, which also look rather uninspired.
Noteworthy is probably the fact that you can adjust the paylines to suit your budget and play between 1 and 50 paylines. Due to this, you can play this game from 0.01 to 100.00 per spin.
When it comes to the gameplay, this slot is a clone of the 2015 release Happy Halloween, which was, back then, a whole lot more fun to play than Xmas Magic is now.
That aside, you will mostly be waiting to trigger the free spins. That’s achieve by landing three Santas on the first three reels. When the free spins are activated, we get to see more of the scenery and the polar lights are added for a nice touch. On every spin, Santa now adds two stacked wilds to reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. This can result in reels of stacked wilds, which can yield great wins.
Add in the stacked mistletoe symbol and we can score wins of 4,000x our stake here.
The good news is, the free spins can be retriggered, which can result in some worthwhile wins.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Xmas Magic is 96.5%, which is great. But casinos are able to lower it to as little as 95.59%. As we would expect, this is a highly volatile slot, so it is recommended that you budget carefully. Thankfully this is also a slot that makes it easy to play on a small budget.
But would you really want to? There is nothing much new about the game and it looks rather dated as it is. The gameplay will become tedious sooner rather than later and there’s no magic to be found here. We once played a free spin round here that scored us over 120x our stake after we managed to retrigger it and landed some wild reels. That’s cool, but it is also rare.
Ultimately, the slot didn’t really captivate us and unless you are a real sucker for everything Christmas, you might have more fun playing the original Happy Halloween. Or pick just about any other Christmas slot that has been released this year.
