Wild Frames Slot Review
Released in December 2019, this game can be played at online casinos such as PlayOjo, Royal Panda and Mr Green.
Theme and general information
Wild Frames is the newest grid slot in Play’n GO’s extensive portfolio of grid slots. As far as the theme goes, this one is fairly unexciting. We get all the card suit symbols and a bunch of classic slot symbols such as stars, diamonds, bells and lucky 7s. There’s also a big golden W as the wild.
For a 7×7 grid slot with 8 symbols, the ratio isn’t too bad.
Of course, this being Play’n GO, we do get crisp and clean graphics with popping colours and a smooth gameplay. We also get a lounge soundtrack that makes for some easy background listening.
No, it’s not super exciting, but it is well put together.
The lucky 7 is the most valuable symbol, if we get 30 in a cluster, we’d win 500x our stake. We need the minimum of 5 in a cluster, where matching symbols touch each other horizontally or vertically. The diamond follows with 250x our stake for win of 30 symbols in a cluster. Wilds, of course, substitute for all symbols. There are no scatters in this game.
You can play this game from 0.20 to 100.00 per spin.
Cascading wins and a symbol charge
As with all grid slots, this one also comes with cascading wins. All symbols that are part of the win will be removed from the grid to make way for new symbols falling in from above. But those winning symbols aren’t simply removed. They charge up the meter on the right-hand side.
We get special modifiers when we collect 20, 40 or 60 symbols this way. The modifiers are:
- Transform (at 20 charges) – Changes all high value symbols into one and the same high value symbol
- Wildcard (at 40 charges) – Randomly adds 3-6 Wilds onto the grid
- Shatter (at 60 charges) – Removes all the card suit symbols from the grid, paying the win that the removal yields
Often, once you make it to 40 charges, things just keep going and you will likely make it to 60 and eventually 80 charges.
The Wildcard feature can actually randomly activate on a non-winning spin as well, adding a bunch of wilds to create a win.
Activate the wild frames
As wild symbols land on the reels, you’ll notice that they create a frame around the grid symbol they land on. When we get a winning cascade and the meter on the right keeps getting charged, those frames remain on the grid as new symbols keep falling in from above.
New wilds will create more frames and if a wild lands in an existing frame, a multiplier is added (which remains inactive until you activate the wild frames).
The wild frames are activated once you hit 80 charges in the meter. Now all symbols inside the wild frames become wild, multipliers are activated, and massive wins are possible. Also, for every 10 charges above 80, two more wild frames are added randomly.
When no more winning clusters are created, the wild frames are reset, and we start again at 0 charges on the meter.
Verdict: A grid slot that can yield some stunning wins
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Wild Frames is 96.5%, though it can be lowered to 94.5%, which is not great. This is another Play’n GO slot with the highest possible volatility, though the generous RTP makes up for that and wins don’t feel unattainable. Especially as those cascades start going and we charge up the meter.
Visually, Wild Frames isn’t the most interesting slot, but as we already said, it is well put together and the theme works well with the mechanics of the game. Plus, the potential maximum payout sits at 7,000x our stake. And that doesn’t seem unrealistic either. In one completely unexpected session we won nearly 400x our stake thanks to those wild frames, which was awesome. And it was quite possible to win repeated 100x our stake at other times as well.
Wild Frames is surprisingly fun to play and if you are lucky, your wins will be stunning as well.
