Who’s the Bride Slot Review

Released in November 2019, this game can be played at online casinos such as Mr GreenGuts or Betsson.

Theme and general information

In recent months, NetEnt has released a considerable number of Asian-themed slots in their bid to expand to the Asian market. This trend continues and one of their latest releases is Who’s the Bride. Whilst obviously Asian-themed, things are rather controversial, if you look a little deeper.

The game has a traditional setup, where we are looking at a stage. And on that stage, brides are paraded around behind veils or curtains for prospective husbands to choose. This is an old tradition that no longer exists (or so we hope), where women were traded like chattel and only judged on the beauty, subservience and manners.

If you are at least somewhat of a feminist, this is not a game for you. Such politics aside, the game is pretty enough, though relatively simple. We get playing card symbols as well as a jade pendant, a tea pot, slippers, a jewellery box and a carriage. The latter is the most valuable symbol, paying out 1,000 coins for 5 on a payline. The jewellery box is worth 750 coins for such a win and the slippers still 400 coins.

The light Asian soundtrack has every potential to put you to sleep, though it is quite lovely.

You can play this game from 0.09 to 28.00 per spin.

Sticky wilds in the free spins

There’s always a certain serenity to Asian slots. The gameplay generally feels much slower and the soundtrack is also quiet. Since the base game comes without any features, it makes the game feel very slow and downright boring. Especially if it takes a few hundred spins to trigger the free spins.

However, with a little luck it won’t take that long at all. With 3 scatters (a gold ingot) you get 12 free spins. More scatters would result in an additional coin prize.

Now we encounter familiar mechanics. On each reel, a different bride is revealed and whenever one of them lands, she becomes sticky for the remained of the spins. Collect all five brides on the reels and additional free spins will be added to your tally.

During the free spins, all wins get a 2x multiplier.

And yes, this is the same gameplay we know from the original Dead or Alive slot. Though the themes couldn’t be more different.

Verdict: Too boring or worth holding out for thanks to it’s great potential?

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Who’s the Bride is 96.82%, which is excellent. Whilst the volatility is very high, the hit rate is not too bad. The potential of wins of 3,000x your stake await, which is worthwhile especially in the free spins where all wins are doubled.

The math isn’t too bad, and the mechanics are familiar favourites. So, this slot definitely has a few things going for it.

But can you see beyond the theme? Honestly, we couldn’t. Apart from the fact that it is utterly outdated and sexist, it’s also really boring to play. The reels spin at a slow pace and the music doesn’t liven things up either. We’d much rather go and play Dead or Alive. Better yet, we go and play Dead or Alive II.
