After Ecuador Gold and Tahiti Gold, Voodoo Gold is the third instalment in the series and thus the third slot that features Kane the Adventurer. This time he’s in the swamps of Lousiana, soulful guitars play in the background and set the scene for a spooky adventure.
The scene is indeed very gloomy. A green light permeates the forest, it is foggy and dank. A rotten mansion is visible in the background. The reels are framed by two gnarly trees with skulls cut into them. The green glow lights up the reels ominously.
Lots of attention to detail has been paid to the reel symbols. The low-value symbols are the drawings of a heart, cross, star and the head of a ram. The medium-value symbols are voodoo symbols such as a bird claw, a poison bottle, dice and a top hat. The high-value symbols are a shrunken head, a voodoo priestess and a skull. Kane himself is the highest-value symbol, paying 2.5x our stake for 6 of a kind. The skull pays 1.3x our stake for such a win and the voodoo priestess is worth 1.2x our stake. The shrunken head is worth 1.1x our stake.
You can play the game between 0.20 per spin and 100.00 per spin.
Just like the other Gold slots this game has avalanche wins. The symbols drop in from above, wins are paid out and all winning symbols are removed. New symbols fall in from above. Additionally, a new row is added to the reels, giving us more chances to collect matching symbols and giving us more paylines as well.
The rows are reset to the initial four when an avalanche win ends.
Then there are mega symbols covering 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 symbols. If there are free spaces underneath a mega symbol after an avalanche win, those empty spaces are filled with wild symbols.
Finally, there are bombs that land on the reels. When one lands anywhere, it will explode after a win is paid out and the space that is created will be filled with new symbols. If two bombs land on the reels, a line connects the two bombs and along those lines all symbols explode.
Free drops are triggered by the bonus scatter. With 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters we get 6, 9, 12 or 15 free drops. During the free drops, avalanche wins and mega symbols occur as well. With each winning spin, a new row is added to the reels. This becomes the new safety level, which means the rows are not reset to four on a losing spin.
That way the rows can be expanded to 8 rows, which remain in play even when no win is created on a drop.
Additionally, all wild symbols that land on the reels drop to the bottom of the reels, where they become sticky and remain for all remaining drops.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Voodoo Gold is 96.1%, which is the same as the two other Kane slots and a good average. The slot is very volatile, and the wins are generally small to begin with. only the avalanche feature allows for bigger wins, if you keep winning.
Voodoo Gold is certainly entertaining and offers solid game play just like Ecuador and Tahiti Gold. The only thing we noticed is that it seems more difficult to hit the free drops here. It took us quite a while. But the base game already manages to create some decent wins, especially thanks to the mega symbols.
If you liked the two previous Kane slots, you’ll like Voodoo Gold as well. And truth be told, we like all three games. We can’t imagine that this is the last time we will meet Kane on an adventure either.
