Theme and general information

With Twisted Sister we’re getting another heavy metal themed slot from Play’n GO, which puts the count to 7. Twisted Sister are arguably the most well-known of all the bands that have been covered so far. In particular their song “We’re not gonna take it” from the 80s is still as catchy as it always was and a popular hit.

The band has been around for 40 years now, giving fans six albums in that time, which is not actually a lot.

The new slot based on the band is certainly different to the other heavy metal games we’ve seen from Play’n GO. We get a surprisingly light and colourful game with a bit of an 80s retro feel. Towering white (or silver?) speakers are framing the 6×6 grid of symbols and a pink guitar serves as meter on the left-hand side.

On the reels we get badges and guitar pecks as low value symbols and five band members as the high value symbols.

Since this is a cluster slot, clusters of 5 or more matching symbols touching vertically or horizontally are forming a win. The lead singer, Dee Snider, is the most valuable of all symbols, paying 250x our stake for clusters of 25 symbols or more.

Of course, we also get the band’s music featured in the game, roaring fans and random shouts, which all adds to the experience.

Three Band Features

As is often the case with grid slots from Play’n GO, there’s a charge meter involved, which is charged up with the symbols that form wins on the grid. When at least five charges are filled up, the Band Features come into play.

Now one band member is selected randomly, and all matching symbols will be equipped (or transformed) with one of the following modifiers:

• Go Wild – The selected band member is turned wild for all instances on the grid.
• Scream – A non-band symbols around the selected band member are destroyed.
• Unite – A number of other symbols is transformed into the selected band member.

Mostly, this will indeed apply to the band members, but it can apply to low value symbols as well.

We’re Not Gonna Take It

In this game, the Charge Meter holds up to 15 charges depending on the cascading wins we may get. But the top of the guitar also shows a picture of a shouting man, who is the Angry Dad from the video to “We’re not gonna take it”. This meter has only four segments and is charged with every appearance of the Angry Dad symbol on the grid in one cascade of wins.

When the meter is full, we get to experience the “We’re not gonna take it” feature, where the titular song is also played. Now, every additional Angry Dad symbol that overcharges the Angry Dad meter will increase a newly introduced multiplier by +1. When the round begins, a 2×2 Mega Band symbol appears, which will try to overthrow the Angry Dad symbols on the reels, creating wins as it goes.

The feature continues until no more Angry Dads remain on the reels.

Verdict: A great grid slot from Play’n GO that doesn’t quite hit as hard as you might expect

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Twisted Sister is 96.2%, which is very good for a slot of just medium volatility. The maximum payout of this game is 4,500x our stake, which is less than we would usually get or even expect, though it’s still respectable.

Overall, the game has been well-executed, the theme suits the band and the era, and we get a solid grid slot with entertaining gameplay and plenty of features. But as far as heavy metal slots go, we almost would have expected something that hits a little harder or goes a bit further than is the case here.

You can’t really fault the game, mind you, and fans will have fun with it. And decent wins are possible as well.
