Theme and general information

Three Star Fortune comes with an Asian theme, an area where Pragmatic Play are truly experts. The scenery is very pretty, up in the mountains with waterfalls, misty valleys and a few temples and other buildings atop the mountains. It’s all very dreamy and relaxing.

There is also something wildly generic about this slot with typical Asian symbols on the reels, and a soundtrack that is just a little too loud and not quite pleasant to listen to. The scenery would have suited a calmer soundtrack and something a little less jolly.

Then again, the three gods featuring in this game, Fu (wealth), Lu (status) and Shou (longevity), are certainly more jovial than some of the fearsome gods we’ve seen in the past.

It’s a good-looking game but nothing special. We’ve seen this dozens of times, even from Pragmatic Play themselves.

On the reels we get low value Chinese characters that actually present the three gods, which is a nice touch for once. Additionally, we a vial, scroll, a pink fruit and a golden ingot on the reels. The latter is worth the most with 25x our stake for 5 of a kind.

Whilst Three Star Fortune only has 10 paylines, the good news is that they pay left to right as well as right to left, making it easier to get winning combinations.

Expanding Wilds and Re-Spins

The three gods appear as wilds on reels 2 (Fu), 3 (Lu) and 4 (Shou), where they expand whenever they land. And when they do land, we get a free re-spins, where they are locked in place and all other reels spin again.

If one or two more gods land on their respective reels, they would also get locked into place and the remaining reels spins once more. Now the pay both ways mechanic comes in handy as we get a maximum of 3 re-spins should all three gods land.

It’s also noteworthy that 5-of-kind wins pay also both ways.

However, that’s about it for features. There are no free spins or other bonus games.

Verdict: An oddly fun slot that could have been much more than it is

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Three Star Fortune is 96.27%, which is good but can be lowered by operators depending on their license. This is a highly volatile slot, mind you, which you won’t always notice since it pays both ways and the three gods appear often enough to keep the wins coming. Only in the long run you’ll notice your funds dwindle.

And therein lies one of the problems. The maximum potential for this game is 500x our stake in one spin, which is hardly worthwhile, especially with a highly volatile slot. Beyond that, the game will become repetitive and thus boring eventually. It can be surprisingly entertaining for a while, perhaps owed to the cheerful gods. But that’s not enough to keep you playing when you notice your funds shrinking and no big win in sight.

It’s a shame as this game could certainly have been much more.
