Street Racer Slot Review
Released in June 2020, this game can be played at online casinos such as Rizk, Unibet or Royal Panda.
Theme and general information
Street Racer is just that, a slot about street racing. Fast cars, bad boys and girls, Las Vegas at night with its neon lights and a surprisingly upbeat soundtrack.
The whole thing reminds us a little of NetEnt’s Drive Multiplier Mayhem, though Pragmatic Play didn’t just copy the other game. With Street Racer, we are also reminded that the graphics team at Pragmatic Play manages to develop some pretty good-looking slot. Far from the generic fare we often get from this developer, graphics are crisp, detailed and very well done.
Nightly Vegas comes with a few iconic sights and hotels we all know from the Strip. Two cars are revving their engines on either side of the reels, which are transparent and show us five street racers (three guys and two gals) as well as the four card suits in neon colours.
The characters on the reels do remind us of the cast of The Fast and the Furious, though there are no actual similarities between them. It’s more about their general appearance. We get Firefly, Alpha, Bolt, Ignite and Vapor, who is worth the most at 10x our stake for 5 on a payline.
The wild in this game looks like a speedometer and only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. We also get a scatter, which lands on reels 1, 3 and 5.
Bets range from 0.20 to 100.00 per spin.
Five free spin modes
We can skip right over the base game as it doesn’t come with any special features and have a look at the free spins.
When you manage to land the scatter three times, you get to choose among 5 free spin options, one for each racer. The more valuable the character, the fewer spins are available and the higher the volatility. Here is what to expect:
- Vapor – Gives us 8 free spins and a volatility of 5/5
- Ignite – Gives us 9 free spins and a volatility of 4.5/5
- Bolt – Gives us 10 free spins and a volatility of 4/5
- Alpha – Gives us 11 free spins and a volatility of 3.5/5
- Firefly – Gives us 12 free spins and a volatility of 3/5
Whichever racer you choose, the gameplay remains the same and their value is multiplied by 5x during the free spins. We can race through 5 laps, which are indicated by nitrous canisters. Collect three of them to make it through one lap, which then removes the current lowest value character on the reels and replaces them with your chosen racer. Additionally, we get between 1 and 3 extra spins on average.
Thus, we go through the laps as long as we collect enough nitrous canisters. If the free spins end before we managed to make it through all five laps, wins are simply paid out as normal. But if we do make it through all five laps, the remaining free spins will be played with just the character we’ve initially chosen, making wins a lot easier.
It’s not possible to retrigger the free spins.
Verdict: A good-looking slot that has a high-octane appeal but doesn’t win the race
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Street Racer is an excellent 96.52%, though this can be lowered depending on the operator. As we’ve seen the volatility varies during the free spins, though it is quite high on the whole.
The maximum potential of this slot is a relatively meagre 2,000x our stake. We call it meagre, even though it’s probably more realistic than a potential of 5,000x our stake, because with a street racing slot that presumably wants to sell us a high octane gaming experience, it seems rather on the low side.
Street Racer is certainly well-executed and playable. But the base game is distinctly lacking in features and once you’ve played through most racers in the free spins, you pretty much know what to expect. As far as we are concerned, Street Racer doesn’t live up to the appeal it wants to project and is therefore not necessarily a race we may want to participate in more than once.
