Romanov Riches is a video slot from Microgaming, developed by Fortune Factory Studios. The game has 5 reels and 15 paylines and is available for play at Microgaming online casinos such as Casumo, LeoVegas or Rizk Casino.
The Romanov dynasty is legendary and the basis for this slot. There isn’t much of a theme here, except that we’re looking at loads of gems and even the basic card symbols from 10 to A can come in glittery version when they take up a whole block of the reels. The game has a rich feel to it, which is probably the aim of this slot.
There’s a somewhat generic background sound that is light and not overly annoying, but it’s also nothing special.
The gems, red, blue, purple and green, are the high-paying symbols. Here the green and blue ones will pay out 4x our stake, and the purple and red one 1.5x our stake, which isn’t a lot. The Wild symbol will pay out 50x our stake in a 5-of-a-kind win.
The base game comes with a rather interesting feature that could give us huge symbols covering all 5 reels. On each spin a Mystery symbol could replace the 2 leftmost stacks of symbols with a symbol of just one kind. When that happens, i.e. when you get at least two stacks of the same symbol on reels 1 and 2, a free re-spin is awarded, and more stacks of the same symbol can potentially be added to the initial ones, which have been locked into place.
If more stacks of the same symbol are added, another re-spin is possible as long as the stacks don’t yet cover all five reels. If all five reels are already covered with just one huge symbol, the win is paid out and the game continues as normal.
When 2 stacks of bonus symbols land on reels 1 and 2, the same thing happens as with the Mystery Stacks feature. The bonus symbol stacks are locked into place and you get a free re-spin that could add between 1 and 3 (or none) additional stacks of bonus symbols.
If that happens, you will trigger Wheel 1 (with 3 stacks of bonus symbols), Wheel 1 and 2 (with 4 stacks of bonus symbols) or Wheel 1, 2 and 3 (with 5 stacks of bonus symbols).
With Wheel 1 we get one spin and a coin prize. With Wheel 2 we get another coin prize. And Wheel 3 gives us a multiplier that is applied to the wins from Wheel 1 and 2. So, depending on how many bonus stacks triggered the feature for you, you may get only one coin prize or two coin prizes with a multiplier of up 10x applied.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Romanov Riches is 96.08%. That’s an average value and not exceptional at all. Since the Mystery Stacks feature is a frequent occurrence, you will feel like a winner more often than not, however.
Still, wins tend to be small and only the gems could give you bigger wins when they cover all five reels.
The bonus feature can also be somewhat disappointing when you only get Wheel 1 and nothing further. Once again, however, it didn’t take us long to activate the feature at all and if it is a more frequent feature, you won’t have to dig too deeply into your funds to keep playing this slot for a while.
Eventually, you will move onto something a little more varied and interesting, though.
