Theme and general information

Once again, Robin Hood and his band of merry men takes the stage in a slot. This is not the first and probably won’t be the last time either. Interestingly, it wasn’t even that long ago that this loveable rogue starred in a video slot.

This time we’re not in Nottingham but in Robin Hood’s hideout. Stacks of treasure and sacks of gold are scattered around. Clearly, Robin hasn’t gotten around to sharing it out to the poor people of Sherwood Forest.

On the reels, we find low value playing cards from 10 to A as well as high value symbols that include a tankard of beer, a feathered cap and a bag of gold. The golden lion is probably there to remind us of Richard Lionheart. It’s a good-looking game with a suitable soundtrack, which we would expect from Red Tiger.

There are also four wilds in the game. The regular heart-shaped gem as well as Robin, Maid Marian and Little John, who all come with modifiers that we will explain below.

Different Wild Modifiers

This is a game that doesn’t come with scatters as there are no bonus games or free spins to earn. Instead, we are hoping for the character wilds to land, which each trigger a different modifier.

Little John – He smashes the ground when he lands and thus destroys all low value symbols. Now only high value symbols land during the next spin, after which he may smash the ground again, removing all symbols that weren’t part of the winning combination, giving us a second chance for another win. Or more wilds.

Maid Marian – She blows kisses at the reels which results in regular symbols being turned wild. There is no set number of wilds you may get, and she may even repeat the whole thing.

Robin Hood – Of course, as the hero of the story his modifier is the most effective of the lot. He shoots arrows at high value symbols, which locks them in place and triggers a re-spin. If Maid Marian triggered any wilds, they will also be locked in place. Should new matching symbols land, they will be locked in place for another re-spin. This continues until no more matching symbols land. However, Robin may shoot at the reels again for another chance of locking in more symbols.

If all three character wilds land in one spin, all modifiers are added, starting with Marian, followed by John and finally Robin.

Verdict: A slot that looks a lot more fun that it actually is to play

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Robin Hood’s Wild Forest is 95.68%, which is average for a Red Tiger slot but below average where just about everyone else is concerned. The game has medium volatility, but the lack of features beyond the wild modifiers doesn’t necessarily mean regular big wins.

Whilst it is possible to see the wilds appearing regularly, you may also end up with a lot of dead spins. And the maximum potential of just 977x our stake means you will rarely hit it truly big.

So, whilst the slot looks like a fun game and the three character wilds manage to entertain when they show up, it’s also not as great as one might think. You could end up with dozens of spins without a wild showing up once and the wins when they do land don’t really make up for what you lost in the meantime. As such, we don’t really know why anyone would want to play this game unless they really like all things Robin Hood.
