It’s easy to think that we’re getting just another old Egyptian slot with Rise of Dead. After all, we seem to get a slot with this theme about once a month. That’s what it feels like anyway. But Rise of Dead is also the nominal sequel to Play’n GO’s hugely successful Book of Dead slot – minus Rich Wilde.
And plus, some mummified pharaohs.
The scene is set in an ancient temple, which is beautifully drawn and offers some lovely detail. And when the undead pharaohs expand fully, they’re stunning to look at. The details here are awesome and the animations are superb. So, once again we get a great-looking slot from Play’n GO.
The scarab is the wild and 5 on a payline give us 125x our stake. The three pharaohs are worth between 12.5x and 25x our stake for such a win. We also get playing card symbols from 10 to A.
You can play this game from 0.20 per spin to 100.00 per spin.
Presumably, during every base game spin, one symbol is randomly chosen to appear stacked 12 high on the reels. However, since this stack rarely lands on the reels and doesn’t much add to the gameplay or your chances of scoring a winning combination, this may not even be considered a feature.
Much more interesting is the Gift of the Gods feature that is randomly triggered in the base game. Reels 1, 3 and 5 will all stop to show the same symbol (any symbol) fully stacked. Only reels 2 and 4 will spin. First reel 4 stops, finally reel 2.
Whilst you are unlikely to get a 5-of-a-kind win and often you won’t get anything at all. It does increase your chances at additional wins that can be quite decent if you manage at least several 3-of-a-kind wins.
The golden scroll is the scatter in the base game and only lands on reels 1, 3 and 5. You get 10 free spins to start with and every additional scatter you get an additional spin added to your counter.
More importantly, of course, the wild scarab now lands stacked on the reels, adding to your potential winning combinations and if the undead pharaohs land in such a way that they can also form extra wins, they will expand fully on their reels, which looks awesome and pays out with only 2 of them on adjacent reels starting on the left-most reel.
So, not only will you get regular wins paid out (if there are any), but then the pharaohs expand, and all additional wins will be paid out on top of that. Combine this with a bunch of stacked wilds and you could get wins of up to 5,000x your stake here.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Rise of Dead is 96.53%, which is great and well above average. Naturally, this is another very volatile Play’n GO slot. Wins can be impressive, but they are likely to be rare.
Still, Rise of Dead is utterly playable and great to look at. Who doesn’t like a beautiful slot with great animations and good features with a decent paytable? Sure, the volatility will put off the cautious player and only risk-seekers will love this game for it’s potential. But with a few lucky spins and a good run during the bonus feature (which manages to appear regularly enough), you might just love this slot from Play’n GO as well. Will Rise od Dead outshine Book of Dead? Probably not, but it won’t disappear in its shadow either.
