Raging Rex is a video slot from Play’n GO with 6 reels and 4,096 ways to win. This slot is the first major release from Play’n GO for 2019 and can be played at online casinos such as Unibet, LeoVegas or CasinoCruise.
Surely, we don’t need to guess what the theme is Raging Rex is? We get a bunch of dinosaurs on the reels and various insects trapped in amber of various colours as well. No playing card symbol to behold anywhere at all.
The scene is set in a fantastic looking jungle environment, where dragonflies fly to and fro. A waterfall splashes into the depth in the background. The symbols are nicely drawn and overall, we get a really good-looking slot here. The background music incorporates the sounds of the jungle and some light music. Once the T-Rex going, he will roar something scary.
Don’t ask us to identify the various dinos on the reels. They are either worth 6x or 7.5x your stake, if you get 6 on a payline, which makes it a little easier for us. Those insects cast in amber are all either 2x or 3x worth your stake for a 6-of-a-kind win.
And since you get so many reels, we also get 4,096 ways to win. That’s good, but it also means this slot is very volatile. Small wins here and there, rarely bigger wins, but 5,000 your stake is actually possible.
The T-Rex is the wild symbol in the game, and he keeps the base game alive. So to speak. He can come stacked on the reels, 2, 3 or 4 symbols high. When he lands stacked four high, he turns into a fully formed T-Rex symbol and his rampage begins.
Now, the fully stacked T-Rex wild will move from his position on the reels (on reel 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) and move on each spin to the left. The fun part is that the walking animation of the T-Rex makes it look as if he’s actually walking. Each spin is a free re-spin until he has reached reel 1, when the features ends. At most, you can get five re-spins here, if the T-Rex landed on reel six. But that won’t give you too much of an advantage. You’re just as likely to walk away with the same amount of cash in wins during only two or three re-spins.
The scatter in this slot is the meteor, which is falling towards Earth to destroy the dinosaurs. Depending on how many scatters trigger the free spins, you’ll get a different number of spins:
Needless to say, you will almost always end up with no more than 15 free spins. Before those get started, you can choose between two features. Either you will get multiplier wilds during the free spins, who will come with 2x or 3x multiplier that actually multiply with each other if more than one is part of a winning combination (giving you a potential 27x multiplier). Or you choose the raging T-Rex, who will be on the reels all the time but wander around at will – jumping back and forth instead of steadily wandering off towards reel 1.
Getting 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters during the free spins, will add 5, 8, 15 or 20 more spins to your tally. Indeed, there’s no limit to how many free spins you can collect here.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Raging Rex is 96.34%, which is actually a really good value. But does it feel like it? Usually, it does not. The raging T-Rex doesn’t show up often and he’s not always profitable. But he does help in this volatile slot. Without him you’d really have to hold onto your funds. And it is entertaining to watch.
Triggering the free spins is not as easy as you might think when you only need three and have six reels to help you with that. But you will see them, and you will try out both features. We preferred the Primal Rage with the wandering T-Rex of the Wild Hunt with the multiplier wilds. The former simply gave us better opportunities for wins. The wilds showed up randomly and rarely as part of a winning combination, whereas the rampaging T-Rex was at least always there, if not always helpful.
Raging Rex is certainly an entertaining slot, for a while anyway. But eventually you might get too frustrated with it and move onto something else.
