Queen of the Crystal Rays is a video slot from Crazy Tooth Studio developed exclusively for Microgaming with 6 reels and up to 50 paylines. Released in July 2019, this game can be played at online casinos such as Rizk, Royal Panda or Mr Green.
Queen of the Crystal Rays brings us a mystical theme. We’re in the ruins of an old temple that is dimly illuminated by bio-luminescent lights. The music, when it plays, is light and esoteric.
Graphically, this is not the most sophisticated slot we’ve seen but it can hold its own. The symbols on the reels, plenty of crystals and mystical items, are all glowing in a neon light and the Queen herself shows up as well.
The setup is unusual. In the base game we get 6 reels with 25 paylines. These can expand during random bonus features to give us 50 paylines on 8 rows, not just the regular 4.
Wins are paid out anywhere on the reels as long as three matching symbols line up on the set paylines.
The Queen is worth 2.5x our stake for 6 of a kind. The three high-value items on the reels each pay out 1x our stake for such a win. All crystals pay out 0.75x our stake for 6 on a payline.
The prism symbol (which looks like a multi-coloured crystal) may trigger a bonus feature but has no monetary value.
You can play this game from 0.20 per spin to 50.00 per spin.
During the base game, you’ll find random wilds and multipliers on the reels. When a multiplier becomes part of a win, it will automatically multiply that win with the applicable multiplier.
Beyond that, however, the reels can expand at random to cover a 6×8 grid of symbols. Usually, further wilds and multipliers are added (6 to 12 wilds on average) and wins are paid out if you manage to form winning combinations. With the expanded rows, you now get 50 paylines, increasing your odds at forming those wins.
You need three bonus symbols anywhere on the reels to trigger the bonus feature. It’s a bit of an odd one. This is neither a free spin bonus nor a pick-me game of some sort. Instead you get 10 crystals lining up along the screen which is now scattered with random coin wins (usually 0.05 coins). In four rounds, during which the multiplier increases from 2x to 5x, the crystals are added to the screen below and lines are highlighted along which all wins are collected.
It is all very random and there’s no rhyme or reason to it. At the end of it all, you have collected coin wins of maybe 10x to 20x your stake. We don’t quite know what to make of it and the mostly small wins will only help you to continue playing for a little while longer.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Queen of the Crystal Rays is 96.7%, which is very good value. The game is not very volatile and given the mostly small wins, you’ll be able to keep winning regularly. Those multiplier wilds showing up randomly are certainly helpful in increasing your wins a little.
If it weren’t for the good value of this slot, there would be very little to recommend it. Honestly, the gameplay is just a little boring and the bonus feature seems quite pointless. You keep collecting small wins and if you don’t want to stretch your budget and play something a little more relaxing, you can always opt for Queen of the Crystal Rays. In theory, it’s apparently possible to win about 2,500x your bet in this game. But we can’t really tell you how that’s possible.
