Theme and game basics

With Viking Clash we get yet another Viking themed slots. It is the first made by Push Gaming, however. And they’ve taken a new approach, as they are wont to do. Push Gaming likes to try something new and unique and they’ve certainly managed to do so once again with Viking Clash as well. The soundtrack is epic and suited to the theme. Whilst the Vikings mostly look angry and there’s actually a clash brewing, the colours are surprisingly bright. Graphics are done brilliantly and special effects are pretty cool.

We get two sets of reels, each with unique symbols. The top reels are framed in red and you’ll find an angry looking red-bearded Viking on them, a blonde Viking and a fresh-looking Viking guy. The green set of reels also has a red-bearded, angry looking Viking, a stoic looking Viking and a Viking maiden.

The two red-bearded Vikings are the highest value symbols, offering 16x our bet for a 5-of-a-kind win. The blond and stoic Vikings each give us 12x our bet for such a win and the younglings give us 10x our bet. The Viking Shield is the wild and also comes with 16x our bet for such a winning combination. Additionally, we get a hammer, an axe and three types of runes on the reels, which are the low-value symbols. Finally, we have the Red Catapult and the Green Canon are the scatters.

Gameplay and features

In the base game you get one random feature, the Wild Ship feature. At any point during the base game, a wave may come crashing across the reels, leaving behind a number of golden Viking ships that act as wilds. They’ll then sail down the reels after a payout on each reel they stop on. The reels won’t spin during that time, the ships simply move off to the left, paying out wins on every reel, where a win can be awarded.

To trigger the free spins, you’ll need three scatters, either the Red Catapults or the Green Canons or a combination thereof. You’ll get six free spins and the catapult or canon, respectively, will shoot sticky wilds to the opposite set of reels. Each subsequent catapult and canon will not only add an additional free spin but also add another sticky wild to the opposite reels. Should the wild land on a position already occupied by a wild, a multiplier will be added instead.

It sounds a little more complicated than it actually is. When we played the game, we managed to catch an additional 8 spins and wilds, including one 2x multiplier, resulting in over 500x our stake in winnings.

Conclusion

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Viking Clash is 96.67%. That’s excellent value and if you are lucky during the free spin round, you will get much more than that back. It took us a little over 100 spins to trigger the free spins for the first time and it felt pretty good.
Viking Clash is a great slot, providing lots of fun and even the base game will stay interesting with those Wild Ships sailing across the reels. They won’t show up too often, but regularly enough to keep your budget going until you hit the free spins.
