Theme and game basics

Turn it Up! is the latest release from Push Gaming and it does turn things up a notch. The theme here is quite obvious: Rock’n Roll, baby! The band consists of the bald lead singer, the female drummer and a guitarist. They’re also the highest paying symbols, giving you 25x, 15x or 12.5x your stake in return for a 5-of-kind-win, respectively. There are also the corresponding ‘tools’ among the medium value symbols, which are the mic, the drums and a guitar, respectively. Finally, we get the card suit symbols with clubs, spades, hearts and diamonds.
The game looks really good and the theme is very well done. The details are great, you have a rocking crowd in front of the stage and the background sound is cool as well. The graphics are brilliant, and you get some neat effects.

Gameplay and features

But what’s the gameplay like? A bit of a mixed bag, really. You see, on every losing spin you will benefit from one of three reel enhancement features. They will essentially keep adding up the more you lose. That should mean in theory that the next winning spin will yield a decent win, but that’s unfortunately not always the case. Here’s what the enhancements look like:

Multiplier Enhancer – at the top of the reels a multiplier (beginning at 2x) will be added, depending on how many times you lose, though only every three losing spins will add the next level multiplier.

Symbol Removal Enhancer – here the symbols vanish off the reels one by one (after two losing spins), beginning with the lowest value symbols.

Wind Symbol Conversion Enhancer – one of the reel symbols may randomly turn wild until you win.
Those enhancers do actually add up, meaning you could have two symbols removed and a 2x multiplier in play. They also change randomly, meaning you may first get a symbol removed and then a multiplier is added before more symbols are removed and then one is turned wild. Any combination is possible, but it doesn’t necessarily yield big wins. It does keep things slightly more interesting, however.

There’s also a free spin feature, which is triggered when the bonus symbol shows up three times on the reels. You may get up to 10 free spins here, though fewer are likely. During the free spin feature enhancers are in play as well, but it doesn’t take as long to have them activated. For instance, if you get the multiplier, it doesn’t require three losing spins to jump to the next one but will do so right away.

The potential for big wins is much higher during the free spins, though you’re not guaranteed a huge win here either. If you get only 5 free spins, your options at collecting enhancers are limited. That said, once your free spins are used up, you get random enhancers once again and they stay in play until you have a final winning spin. That may be the next spin, or it may be 10 spins down the line.

Conclusion

The theoretical RTP (return to player) of Turn it Up! is 96.51%. That’s good value, as always when it comes to Push Gaming slots. Turn it Up! has an interesting premise and the enhancers are a unique concept. Push Gaming does a good job at bringing this Rock slot to live and it does well in comparison to other slots of this theme. The music is great, though it might become repetitive after a while. And the features are well done, too. It’s just that the game never really got going for us. We kept waiting for something big to happen and it didn’t. With those enhancers you’d expect a big win every once in a while, but either we were unlucky this time around, or the slot just doesn’t have them on offer.
