Theme and basic information

You’ll be forgiven for being reminded of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise when first opening up this game. The ghostly pirate and main character of the game somewhat reminded us of the movie.

There are other pirate themed slots out there, but Pirate’s Plenty is in our opinion the most beautiful of them are. Graphically, the game is truly stunning and incredibly well done. The animations we get when a win occurs, or a feature is hit are amazing.

The scene in the base game takes us into the cave where the pirates’ treasure is hidden away. It’s dark and mysterious, only lit by the light of some torches. During the free spins, we’re taken to a sunken ship under the sea, which also looks great.

On the reels you’ll find various items associated with pirates. We get cannons, pistols, bottles of rum, a pirate’s hat as well as a skull. The latter is the most valuable symbol, paying 400 coins for a 5-of-a-kind win. You get 1,000 coins for six on a payline once the treasure reels are unlocked. The remaining high-value symbols are worth between 60 and 120 coins for wins of 5 on a payline and twice that for wins of 6 of a kind.

The low value symbols look like gold coins adorned with the card suit symbols (hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds).

You can play this game from 0.20 to 20.00, making it suitable for the budget conscious.

Collect maps and mind the cheeky monkey

The base game doesn’t hold much excitement, to be honest. You keep spinning the reels, at speed if you like, and whilst you’re hoping for some decent wins here and there (which is definitely possible), you’ll be collecting maps, which appear rather randomly on the reels. Those will be added to your treasure reel, where a little ship will move step by step towards the X marked on the map.

But do be careful here, because changing your bet size will reset the map. You don’t want that to happen, so you pretty much have to commit to your bet right from the get-go. And believe us, it takes easily 300 or 400 spins to get the ship where you want it to be.

A little gimmick to cheer you up every now and then is the cutely dressed monkey. Whenever he appears on the reels, he’ll hop around to steal all the low-value symbols, which are then replaced by high-value symbols. The monkey will settle back into position and act as a wild.

Ocean spins and an upgraded game

Whilst you’re waiting to collect enough maps to unlock the treasure reels, you may be lucky enough to trigger the Ocean Spins twice or maybe three times. You need three scatters to do that and it will give you 10 free spins. As long as the treasure reel is not unlocked, you simply play with 5 reels and hope for the skeleton pirate to make an appearance. He’s holding a key, which will help unlock the three treasure chests on top of the reels.

You need three keys for each chest. When you manage to unlock it (usually, you’ll be able to unlock at least the first one), you’ll get extra free spins and one of the low-value symbols will turn wild. That definitely makes things more interesting.

But what you really want is to unlock the 6th reel in the base game. Once you’ve collected enough maps the 6th reel comes into play as well as extra stacked wilds (that look really cool like ships in bottles) that can also have 2x to 5x multipliers attached.

Now 6-of-a-kind wins become possible, multipliers make wins even more worthwhile and when you hit the Ocean Spins now, huge wins are waiting for you.

Conclusion: Beautiful game with interesting features that reward in the long run

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Pirate’s Plenty is 96.12%, which is only an average value. Plus, this is a highly volatile slot, so you can hit long periods of dry spells without significant wins.

The game is beautifully designed, and the features are great. But Pirate’s Plenty is going to require you to commit to it. And not just half. Set your bet and keep going. It will take several hundred spins to unlock the treasure reel (unless you’re extremely lucky) and you might not have enough decent wins to keep you going. But once the 6th reel is unlocked, things will start to look up.
