Piggy Riches Megaways marks the first cooperative effort of Red Tiger and NetEnt, who acquired the former last year. Piggy Riches is a NetEnt classic that has now been redressed in the Megaways engine. After all, with the acquisition of Red Tiger, NetEnt also obtained the Megaways license from Big Time Gaming.

Whilst the remake of Piggy Riches is much more modern and graphically more sophisticated than the original, its origins can certainly not be denied. We are the Piggy Mansion with sprawling gardens, extravagant decorations and decadent playing card symbols from 10 to A on the reels. It all speaks of the riches the title of the slot lays claim to.

The high value symbols show us a piggy bank, a bulging purse of cash, car keys and a gold card. The large bag full of riches is the highest value symbol and pays 20x our stake for 6 of a kind. It also is the only symbol that pays for just two of it on a payline. The other high pay symbols are worth between 1.2x and 5x our stake for 6 of their kind.

Miss Piggy is the scatter in the game and Mr Piggy is the multiplier wild that usually lands stacked on the reels.

Stacked multiplier wilds in the base game

The only real feature you’ll find on the reels in the base game are the stacked Mega Wilds that show Mr Piggy. He can land anywhere on the reels and usually has a multiplier between 2x and 7x attached.

Up to three can land in a single spin and all of them that become part of a win will combine their multipliers, which can result in great wins in the base game.

Unlimited free spins and unlimited multipliers

When three scatters land anywhere on the reels, the bonus wheel is triggered. We get to spin it and the outer and inner wheels start spinning. Eventually, a highlighted segment shows us how many free spins we receive to begin with and what our starting multiplier will be.

Verdict: A decent first offering from Red Tiger and NetEnt but perhaps too cautious

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Piggy Riches Megaways is 95.71%, which is somewhat below average and has been the norm lately with Red Tiger slots. The volatility of this game is on the high end but the Megaways engine and cascading wins usually makes it feel as if we are winning more than we are losing. Still, wins tend to be on the small side and there are no multipliers in the base game outside the Mr Piggy Mega Wilds which may not always land in a beneficial spot.

The maximum possible payout in this game is 10,474x our stake, which is great.

As a first collaborative effort, Piggy Riches Megaways will mostly appeal to fans of the original as this is a much-needed update of the original. But among the flood of Megaways slots, this one doesn’t stand out particularly. Considering what we know NetEnt and Red Tiger to be capable of, we consider this one almost a bit too conservative. Hopefully, their next slot will blow our minds because we know they certainly could. Piggy Riches Megaways is a decent slot, but it doesn’t blow us away.
