Theme and general information

North Storm looks oddly familiar when you first load it. Whilst the graphics are spectacular and will blow you away because you didn’t expect this when you launched the game, we feel very much reminded of Asgardian Stones from NetEnt as well. Though, honestly, North Storm looks better.

We’re in a mountainous, snowy landscape far up in the north. Two massive stone statues, ominously looking like guardians, flank the reels. Snow flurries fly across the reels and the mythical soundtrack adds to the atmosphere. It’s bleak and cold and you just want to get inside and warm up by a fire.

The theme does lean heavily on Norse mythology and look and feel. We get runic looking playing card symbols from 10 to K and high value symbols that look like various Celtic symbols or knots.

The wild is the abstract depiction of a wolf’s head and the scatter shows us one of those guardians that flank the reels with glowing eyes. It looks like a mask of sorts and could be Thor or a White Walker for all we know.

The wild is the most valuable symbol, paying 100x our bet for 5 of a kind. The square symbol pays the same for such a win. The other two Celtic symbols pay 10x and 20x our stake for five of a kind.

In any case, it’s beautiful to look at and graphically, Rabcat have created a winner here.

Multipliers in the base game

North Storm comes with the so-called Bonus Falls. We get cascading reels (or Rolling Reels if you prefer) and multipliers on every consecutive win from 1x to 4x.

As the symbols fall in from above, wins will form and the winning symbols get removed from the reels to make room for new ones, which will hopefully create more wins. And when that happens, the multiplier climbs by 1x until it reaches the maximum of 4x.

This is a well-known feature, but Rabcat calls it Bonus Falls.

Of course, the multiplier resets to 1x on a losing spin.

Double the multipliers in the free spins

The free spins are triggered when three or more scatters land on a payline beginning from the left-most reel. We get 8 free spins, if we activate the feature with three scatters. For every additional scatter that lands on a contributing payline, we get +2 free spins. The maximum number we can get is 20.

The scene changes slightly as it gets darker and a thunderstorm rages with lightning flashing in the distance. All multipliers double in the free spins, which means our starting multiplier is 2x now. The maximum multiplier is therefore 8x. Otherwise everything really remains the same.

It is not possible to retrigger the free spins.

Verdict: A stunning slot that can bore you to tears or yield good wins

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of North Storm is 96.13%, which is a good average. We get a slot with medium volatility here, though the maximum win is probably somewhere between 500x and 1,000x our stake. Rabcat have not attached specific numbers regarding the maximum payout potential in this slot.

In terms of gameplay, there’s nothing original in this slot. It uses tried and favoured mechanics and you can’t really go wrong with that. And although the graphics in this game look phenomenal and much better than many slots with similar themes, the game doesn’t make much of an impact beyond that.

You’ll be able to play it for a quite a long time, regularly trigger the free spins and never stretch your budget too far. But with the exception of a few instances where the multiplier climbs to 4x or 8x, there is little excitement to be found here. It’s a solid slot for everyone who likes solid, middle-range gameplay.
