Mystery Reels Megaways Slot Review
Mystery Reels Megaways is a video slot from Red Tiger with 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. Released in March 2019, this game can be played at online casinos such as Rizk, Kaboo or ComeOn!.
Theme and basic information
Mystery Reels Megaways is a follow-up on the original Mystery Reels slot from Red Tiger, which was released two years ago. And it is definitely a step up, at least in gameplay.
We still get a fairly classic fruit machine, though. The reel frame looks like an actual slot machine and the six reels come with the typical fruit machine symbols you know: 7s, bells, stars, horseshoes, melons, cherries, plums, grapes, oranges and lemons.
That’s quite a few symbols, but we also get six reels and up to 7 rows to fill them with. But with so many possible paylines, payouts for the symbols are very small for wins with 6 of a kind. The 7 is the most valuable symbol, paying out 50 coins for 6 of a kind. The star follows far behind with 7.5 coins for such a win. All other symbols are worth between 0.8 and 2 coins for such a win.
There is also no wild in the game.
You can play this game from 0.20 to 10.00 per spin.
Cloning symbols and cascading wins
The golden apple is a mystery symbol that randomly lands on the reels and then begins cloning itself. Once the cloning stops, a random symbol is revealed, which will almost certainly result in a winning combination.
Then there are the cascading wins such games are usually equipped with. All symbols in a winning combination will be removed from the reels and new symbols fall in from above. This continues until no more wins are created and the combined wins are paid out at last.
Climbing multipliers with each win
You need three scatters to trigger the free spins. Before those start, a wheel appears with different numbers on it. You’re shown that you receive 8 free spins, but you can gamble for more. If you decide to spin the wheel, you may get only 4 spins, but you can also get up to 20.
During the free spins, each consecutive win will get you a multiplier. In combination with those cascading wins, multipliers can climb pretty fast before the wins are actually paid out. Still, the free spins are hard to come by and we never managed more than 50x our stake in wins.
Conclusion: Another MegaWays slot that doesn’t have mega pays
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Mystery Reels MegaWays is 96.18%. Whilst this is not the most volatile slot we’ve come across, it’s also not a very generous slot. Cascading wins can be pretty decent and pay a good 20x your stake, which is already a lot considering how small the wins are in this game.
Alas, the game just kept robbing us of our funds. Playing at least 800 spins, we were usually on the losing side of things, especially in the long run. When we test a game, we make sure to play several sessions and at least a thousand spins. Some slots reveal all the ups and downs much quicker than that. Others may take even longer to come around and reveal their potential. Not so with this game. We have many favourites among Red Tiger’s games. This isn’t one of them. And the free spins didn’t pay out either.
If you want to give this one a try, be careful with your budget. You’ll need all the luck you can get to make this one a winner.
