Mystery Museum is a video slot from Push Gaming with 5 reels and 10 paylines.

Mystery Museum Slot Review

Released in July 2020, this game can currently exclusively be played at Mr Green.

Theme and general information

Mystery Museum takes us into a, well, museum. It’s not of the Louvre type, however. In fact, it looks more as if we are inside an old castle or cathedral where ancient treasures have been collected for centuries. The atmosphere is indeed mysterious, and the soundtrack gives us a sense of adventure.

Push Gaming may not churn out slots like other studios, but they are usually worth the wait and always have something unique about them, which is true for Mystery Museum as well.

Graphically, the slot has been designed to the usual high standards we know from Push Gaming. Dust mites float in the light that shines in from above, adding to the details and atmosphere of the game.

On the reels, we find different symbols, all somewhat linked to each other. There are lower value runes, celtic symbols, Chinese coins and the Eye of Horus, followed by medium value vases from China, Greece and Egypt, and high values including the Aegis (Athena’s shield with the head of the Medusa), a horned helmet and a Tut mask. The latter is the most valuable symbol, paying 500x our stake for 5 on a payline, which is impressive indeed.

The Samurai mask is the wild and scatter in this game. It is also worth 500x our stake for 5 in a win.

Bets can be placed from 0.10 to 100.00 per spin.

Stacked Mystery Symbols with scatter wins

Setting aside, the ‘Mystery’ in the game’s title also alludes to one of the main features, the Mystery Stacks. These look pretty cool, kind of like stained glass windows as we find them in churches. Whenever one of those lands even partially, it’s nudged into place. We do need at least three to land for that to happen, though. When it does, all three Mystery Stacks are spinning to reveal a random standard reel symbol, which then expands across the whole reel and pays out no matter where the reels are on positioned. This, of course, reminds us of Book of Ra style features.

When wins have been paid out, reels reset and spin as usual.

The Power Gamble Feature

This is a new option and players can set this feature to activate after wins of 2x, 5x, 10x, 25x or 50x their stake. So, if you don’t want the feature to pop up after every second win (which it will even on auto-play), you may want to only use it during bigger wins.

In any case, the Power Gamble feature gives us an extra chance to increase a win. You always have the chance to gamble or simply collect your wins. If you decide to gamble, you choose one of 4 cards, all with their faces down. If a tick is revealed, your win increases. An ‘X’, however, ends the feature and you lose it all.

It is possible to select 1, 2 or even 3 cards during the feature. Whilst more ticks will increase the rewards you get, the chances of picking the ‘X’ are obviously also higher.

Additionally, winning more than 100x your stake during the feature allows you to bank some of the wins and trading some in for free spins.

You can turn the feature off entirely if this isn’t your thing.

Free Spins with locked Mystery Stacks

Free spins are triggered thanks to the Samurai wild scatters. We need 3, 4 or 5 scatters to get 8, 10 or 12 free spins. For once, getting the full amount doesn’t seem unachievable either.

Now, the Mystery Stacks continue to land and even landing one partially will result in a nudge that will move it onto the reel fully. It is then locked in place and reveals a Mystery Symbol to hopefully create win. Any further Mystery Stacks that land on the reels will also be locked in place and continue to pay as scatters as long as we have at least three of them.

Verdict: A great-looking slot with intriguing gameplay and solid potential

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Mystery Museum is 96.58%, which is already excellent. With the Power Gamble feature active, however, you increase the RTP to 97.04%. And whilst this game is highly volatile and you can see a lot of dead spins, the potential of 17,500x our stake make it absolutely worth trying.

In some ways, Mystery Museum offers some classic gameplay here with the Mystery Stacks. But the Power Gamble feature certainly adds a twist to that and if you like your stakes high and get the adrenaline pumping, you’re in for a treat.

Mystery Museum is absolutely playable and if you don’t want to wait for a wider release, head on over to Mr Green to take the game for a spin.
