Theme and game basics

As is often the case, the theme of the game is already hinted at in the title: serenity. It is indeed a serene slot with a calming and light background sound, a beautiful Asian landscape and very pretty lanterns on the reels. It is the evening and you’re just winding down from the day, relaxing from the toils by light of some lanterns, looking out over a mountainous landscape, listening to quiet music.

The lanterns are very pretty and the high-value symbols in this game. As almost always, the scatters and wilds are the highest value symbol, with the scatters offering up 400x our stake and wilds even 500x, if we manage to get 5 of them on the reels. The lanterns pay between 17 and 33x our stake in a 5-of-a-kind win. The remaining low-value symbols are the usual standard playing card symbols that are adorned with Asian-themed decorations (such as a fan or a dragon or lucky coins).

Gameplay and features

Serenity is all about the two bonus features. The base game will just keep on rolling, reeling in smaller wins here and there, but you’ll be on the lookout for those scatters and bonus symbols. Three or more scatters anywhere on the reels will trigger the free spins.

You’ll get 10 of those with a 3x multiplier. The free spins will simply play through once you’ve started them and all wins get that multiplier applied, which will be a nice addition. The good thing is, another three scatters will re-trigger the feature. And during the free spins you may also be able to trigger the Lantern Bonus.

The Lantern Bonus can be triggered in the base game and during the free spins and it is a simple click me bonus. You need at least 3 of them on a winning line to trigger the feature. You’ll be taken to a different screen where you get three picks among a dozen pretty lanterns. Coin wins are revealed and when you’re done, you’re going back to the previous part of the game.

Depending on whether you triggered the Lantern Bonus with 3, 4 or 5 bonus symbols, you’ll get line wins between 36x to 300, 48x to 400x or 60x to 500x your bet.

Conclusion

The theoretical RTP (Return to player) of Serenity is 96.56%. That’s great value and usually you’ll feel like a winner when playing this slot, even though you won’t easily be walking away with bigger win. Even during the free spins, we barely walked away with more than 25 to 30x our stake. At the very least, we didn’t actually get bored with this slot, despite the calmness of the theme, which may put some of you to sleep.

Both bonus features are activated regularly, one or the other during roughly 100 spins. Serenity won’t win you big money, despite the 3x multiplier during the free spins, but it will provide some easy entertainment for a little while, especially if you feel like something relaxing.
