La Bomba Slot Review
La Bomba is a video slot from NextGen Gaming with 5 reels and 25 paylines. The game was originally released in December 2018 and can be played at online casinos such as ComeOn!, Mr Green or LeoVegas.
Theme and basic information
With La Bomba we get a cartoonish theme set in the sleepy little Mexican town of San Perezoso. Señora Guadalupe is the main character of the game, who tries to keep things lively for us. But don’t ignore the little mouse that’s running up and down the streets behind the reels, always carrying some sort of explosive that go off randomly. It’s the one feature about this theme that we enjoyed the most.
The slot is nicely drawn, though not outstanding. The soundtrack fits the theme and explosions are mixed in here and there. Thankfully, there are not playing card symbols anywhere in sight, which gives us plenty to look at on the reels.
Señora Guadalupe is the most valuable symbol, offering up 20x our stake for a 5-of-a-kind win. The bell follows with 10x our stake for such a winning combination and the Venus fly trap as well as the cacti still paying out 7.5x our stake for such a winning combination. The various explosives (powder keg, Molotov cocktail, dynamite and cherry bomb) are the low value symbols in the game.
The La Bomba bomb is the wild symbol, which appears on reels 2, 3 and 4, where it also works as the scatter, if you land three of it on all three middle reels.
You can play this game from €0.25 to €62.50 per spin, which makes this a medium-range slot.
A base game full of bombs
The main attraction in the base game is seeing those bombs go off. They all do, eventually, but that doesn’t necessarily mean big wins are in order. Indeed, this is a fairly volatile slot, which means wins aren’t frequent and rarely big.
Somehow, even the base game manages to be entertaining, if you catch the little mouse running around with all those explosives. Sadly, this little feature could actually have been used to give us something special in the bonus game, but the bombs always go off randomly, even when the reels stand still, so there’s nothing much happening in the base game. You’ll simply be spinning away, waiting for three La Bomba wilds/bombs to show up on the three middle reels.
Multiplying wins in the bonus game
When you activate the free spins, you start out with 5 spins. Pay attention to reels 2, 3 and 4. Above those reels, multiplied sums of the triggering win (when you activated the free spins feature) will be available. On reels 2 you get the actual amount of the triggering win, on reel 3 it’s 2x the amount and on reel 4 it’ll be 3x the amount. Whenever a La Bomba bomb lands on one of those reels, it’s possible to collect that amount as an additional coin win to any other wins on the reels.
If you were lucky and had a good triggering win, this can be a worthwhile feature.
Also, two more La Bomba wilds will result in one additional spin to be added, whereas three wilds will give you two more spins. That way you can end up playing more than five spins that you started out with.
Conclusion: A fun little game that fails to be explosive
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of La Bomba is 96.27%, which is slightly above average and generally not bad value. However, since this is a volatile slot, you may not see any return anytime soon, so budgeting carefully is definitely recommended.
As it is, despite the many explosions and some decent wins during free spins, we wouldn’t consider this an explosive slot at all. It’s middling at best, going off here and there but ultimately, it never captured our attention beyond watching the little mouse and its antics.
Do give it a spin and try it out for yourself, though, but keep in mind that you may have to budget and that no big wins will be waiting here.
