Jungle Books is a video slot from Yggdrasil Gaming with 5 reels and up to 68 paylines. This slot was originally released in September 2017 and can be played at online casinos such as Mr Green, Twin Casino or Vera&John.

Theme and basic information

Jungle Books very obviously borrows its theme from the Disney movie The Jungle Book, which itself is based on the Rudyard Kipling book. We get a young boy on the reels, a bear, a tiger, a panther and a snake, the main actors of the story.

But much more interesting is the fact that each of the five characters gets their own realm. As long as we’re in one realm, the character will stand to the left. If they leave, we change realms and another character will occupy the space left to the reels. Each realm is set in the jungle and they look all fairly similar. It’s in the bonus features where we see the differences, but more on that later.

The slot is beautifully made, as we would expect from Yggdrasil Gaming. It looks fantastic and the background soundtrack is great as well.

Interestingly, reel height changes from realm to realm and sometimes there are 1, 2 or 3 extended reels. So, the number of paylines changes as well.

So many features in the game

We cannot rightfully separate bonus and base game in this slot. With the five realms and the five characters, we get a number of different bonus features. Depending on which realm you’re in, you get the two bonuses the main character of that realm comes with. Plus, there’s always room for visitors, who show up to the right side, where they can add a third feature to the reels (one of the two associated with them).

So, here’s what each character gets:

• The Boy – Adjacent reels of the same height will sync to give us the same kind of symbol on each row. Plus, he comes with spreading wilds, adding 1 or 2 extra wilds to the reels.
• The Bear – The honey comb bonus gives out random coin wins. Also, the bear may choose a random symbol on the reels that comes stacked for one spin.
• The Panther – The highest value symbol acts as an extra wild. Additionally, a 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier can be randomly added to a win.
• The Snake – Wins are awarded both ways. Wilds always have a 3x multiplier.
• The Tiger – Wins become sticky on the reels, resulting in a re-spin and with hopefully more the same symbol added. The wild can land stacked on the tallest reels.

Whichever realm you’re in, two of those features will be active. Though you won’t get an active feature on every single spin. They’re handed out randomly but frequently.

Beyond those realm features, any of the other characters may come by to visit whichever realm you’re currently in. They’ll appear on the right-hand side and one of their bonus features may then activate on any spin as long as their visit lasts. That means you can get a combination of at least two different bonus features on a given spin, which can result and pretty cool wins.

Conclusion: Loads of fun but watch your budget

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Jungle Books is 96.1%, which is only average. This is a slot of medium volatility, which means wins are not too frequent and rarely big. But you will win enough to keep going, most of the time. Since the return to player isn’t huge, you should definitely pay attention to your bet size and limits, but this slot is also a lot of fun.

You will win just often enough to keep going and you will want to see all the realms and find out which one yields the best profits. Mostly, you might stick around one realm anywhere between 10 and 100 spins. We’ve once got stuck with the Snake for over 200 spins, which was probably unusual, but quite beneficial, because here wins pay both ways.

We found Jungle Books to be hugely entertaining. All the characters are great and wonderfully animated and you won’t be bored with this slot anytime soon.
