Well, once again we get a little slot with gems on the reels. And unfortunately, there’s nothing special about these slots at all. It all looks rather flat and boring, if clean and tidy. The colours don’t pop, the gems are generic, and we even get the playing card symbols from J to A to fill up the reels.
So, there’s not much to go on about when it comes to the theme. But it doesn’t always have to heavy on the graphics and effects, as long as the gameplay manages to convince, right? We’ll see about that.
In any case, the Icy Gems logo is the most valuable symbol on the reels, giving as 50x our stake in a 5-of-a-kind win. The whole time we played this game, we only managed to get one winning combination of three matching symbols with this one, so don’t count on big wins here. The diamond gem is the highest value gem with 15x our stake for such a winning combination. The other three are worth between 7.5x and 12x our stake.
You can play this slot from €0.10 to €100, making it suitable for most budgets.
Yes, this is a simple game and so we only get one main feature here, which we will explain in more detail in the next paragraph.
The base game doesn’t hold many surprises, or any, for that matter. You keep spinning away on the reels, catch a wild here and three to help with winning combinations and watch for more of them to arrive. More winning combinations, that is. On the left-hand side is a symbol storage, where symbols from winning combination are stored. But only the gems or playing card symbols (not the wilds) are stored here. Get three consecutive wins (including two or three in one spin) and fill up the storage to trigger the bonus feature. You will get a free re-spin, if you don’t collect three winning combinations in one spin.
If you don’t get three wins in a row, the storage is emptied again, and you have to begin anew.
Once you’ve collected three symbols in the storage area (which we found happens usually once every 50 spins), you activate the Superspin. That has three different levels, depending on how many different symbols you have in your storage:
Mostly, you will get the silver spin, but every once in a while, you’ll enjoy a gold spin. We’ve not managed to get a Win Big spin, unfortunately.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Icy Gems is 96.03%, which is just about average. This is definitely a volatile slot, so we recommend you budget carefully. And as deceptively simple as this game might look and feel, it can still pack a punch, if you manage to get a Gold spin or a Win Big feature.
That’s pretty rare, but the potential is there. Incidentally, the mechanics are exactly the same here as they are in Reel Talent from the same developer. If you want a theme that’s vastly more fun and entertaining, you might want to play Reel Talent instead. If it doesn’t matter either way, you can take Icy Gems for a spin.
