Theme and general information

Golden Glyph is not the first slot from Quickspin that uses ancient Egypt as a theme, but it is without a doubt the most beautiful of them. The backdrop is a fictitious version of ancient Egypt (at no point has there ever been a place in Egypt with so many massive pyramids and gigantic statues), but it is beautifully done, nonetheless. The Nile meanders along in the distance and birds fly across the scene as the sun is setting.

One is inclined to gaze at the background rather than watch the action taking place on the reels. Indeed, the symbols look nowhere near as beautiful of intricate as the backdrop anyway, so you will only be looking for winning clusters when you look at the reels.

The low-value symbols look a little like hieroglyphs such as water lines, a cobra, an ankh and an eye. The high-value symbols are a pharaoh, a queen and falcon-headed god Horus. The pharaoh pays out the most for clusters of 5 of a kind, which gives us 1x our stake, or clusters of 15+ symbols, which pay out 250x our stake.

Four different Power-ups

Of course, with cluster wins we also get the tumble (or avalanche feature), whereby all symbols of the winning cluster are removed to make room for new symbols from above. When a winning cluster contains a Power Wild, a Power Up will be triggered.

You will notice the fraction of a wheel on the left-hand side of the reels. At any time, up to four different symbols are visible on 5 spaces. The wheel spins along on every spin of the reels, potentially giving us one of four random features:

During the free spins the Gold Glyph Wild is in place. It not only acts as a wild but also comes with an increasing multiplier. The Golden Glyph Wild basically wanders to a random position on the reels during the free spins and whenever it is part of a winning cluster, the multiplier climbs. It can go up to 99x, provided we manage to collect that many free spins on top of the initial 9.

Conclusion: A beautiful slot with intriguing gameplay and big win potential

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Golden Glyph is 96.19%, which is good value, especially for a slot of medium volatility such as this one. Golden Glyph can be fun, and it can surprise us on every spin. Whilst we don’t always get a Power Up feature, they land often enough to keep things interesting.
