Theme and general information

Football Glory is just about the first football slot of the season with a view to the World Cup at the end of the year 2020 (provided there isn’t going to be a pandemic related cancellation).

Whenever there is a big football event coming up, we can expect an increase of football-themed slots. This isn’t the first one from Yggdrasil either. But one might almost think they’d never tried their hand at the theme or any other slot for that matter. Football Glory looks dated and a little unfinished. Making a football slot look attractive is not an easy feat, but it has been done better than this and we are used to a whole lot better from Yggdrasil.

The whole thing is rather uninspired. Set in the middle of the stadium with roaring crowds in the background, we get boring J to A card symbols and four different football players. Here the guy with the yellow background is worth the most but still only pays 10x our stake for 5 of his kind.

On the whole, this slot doesn’t look like much effort has been put into it and when we have a look at the features, you will see why.

Gold and Silver Cups

Football Glory is not short on features. But none of them are new as this game is actually a clone of the Viking series (mostly the first part).

During the base game, the Silver Cup lands on reel 4 and the Gold Cup lands on reel 5. If either of the cups land, random awards are given out:

• Silver Cup – between 50 and 1,000 coins or 7 to 21 free spins in the base; during the free spins, 50 to 1,000 coins, + 2 to 4 extra spins, a Wild reel or 1 to 2 extra wilds are possible
• Gold Cup – between 250 and 10,000 coins or 7 to 21 free spins, All Star glory spins or Glory Boost in the base game; during the free spins, + 2 to 4 extra spins, a Wild reel or 2 extra wilds

Glory Spins and Superstar Mode

Each players gets a meter underneath the main set of reels. Each time a player is part of win, that meter gets filled. This can take just about forever, though. When it does happen, we get 7 free spins and the players whose meter we filled is played in Superstar Mode, which means each instance of him will become a sticky wild during those free spins.

Free Spins with various modifiers

Apart from catching free spins thanks to the cups, we can also activate them by landing at least three free spin scatters on the reels. That will give us 7 free spins. Four scatters will award 14 free spins and five scatters will give us 21 free spins.

Before the feature is played out, a few modifiers can be randomly awarded that may be activated during the free spins:

• Superstar mode for all players
• 1 sticky wild to start with
• A random sticky wild reel
• 5 Silver or Gold Cups are randomly added to improve the chance of landing one and triggering the extras as mentioned above

Whilst the free spins cannot be retriggered, Silver and Gold Cups can award additional free spins.

Verdict: A feature-packed slot that still manages to be boring and tired

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Football Glory is 96.1%, which is average. This slot has a medium volatility and comes with a hit rate of nearly 21%, which is decent. You can also expect to trigger the free spins in the traditional way every 100 or so spins.

Filling up the glory meter or getting more than a coin prize from the cups is a different matter entirely. That can take forever and since this game doesn’t feel particularly inspired and is also surprisingly boring, the wait does not seem worth it at all.

The maximum payout is set at 4,000x our stake, which is also nothing get exited about, so why play this game? If you are a hardcore fan of football themed slots and aren’t interested in the Vikings slots at all, you can surely give this one a try. But Vikings Go Wild has at least the advantage of giving us more charming characters.
