Electric Avenue is a video slot from All41Studios exclusively developed for Microgaming. Featuring 6 reels and 4,096 ways to win across 4 rows, this game was released in May 2020 and can be played at online casinos such as Kaboo, Maria Casino or Royal Panda.
It’s sunset in Miami Beach and the party people are about to hit the clubs and dance like there’s no tomorrow. Or rather, they’d be hitting up the discos as we are in the 80s here and the retro neon theme is rocking the scene.
All41Studios offers up some solid graphics and the slot looks pretty good. The atmosphere is underscored nicely with a suitable soundtrack.
On the reels we find low value card suit symbols in bright neon as well as high value symbols showing a Rubik’s cube, hi-top shoes, a soda can, pink shutter shades, a polaroid camera and finally, a ghetto blaster. The latter is the highest paying symbol with 50x our stake.
With 4,096 ways to pay, three matching symbols just need to land on adjacent reels beginning on the left-most and you score a win here.
The scatter, by the way, is the iconic Delorean.
You can play this game from 0.20 to 30.00 per spin.
The main highlight in the base game are the various expanded wild symbols, all kids of their era, who land on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Whilst they are always expanded across the full reel (though they may only land in part, of course), they always count as just one symbol, thus completing only one payline.
Randomly, these wilds may have added multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x (the multiplier corresponds with their reel). Whilst several expanded wilds can land in a single spin, only a maximum of two can have such a multiplier.
Three or more scatters are required to trigger the free spins. More scatters award a coin prize.
Now we get to choose among two free spin features:
Electric Free Spins – We start with 7 free spins and a random symbol that is chosen as a power wild. Whenever the chosen symbol lands on reels 2, 3, 4 or 5, it will turn into a power wild and remain sticky for the duration of the spins. If a reel is completely covered with power wilds, we get +3 free spins.
Neon Free Spins – Here we start off with 10 free spins. Now a Wild Wheel may randomly land on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. First any wins are paid out if one was possible, then the Wild Wheel starts spinning and awards a multiplier of 11x, 22x, 33x, 44x or 55x. If we get three or more scatters during the Neon Free Spins, the feature is re-triggered.
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Electric Avenue is a very decent 96.37% and the slot comes with a hit rate of a solid 25.7%. The features are good, and the slot is well-executed. On the whole, we barely have a reason to complain. The main problem is that Electric Avenue is a complete rip-off of Big Time Gaming’s Danger! High Voltage, which is almost exactly the same in most aspects that concern the gameplay. We get fewer free spins and a lower maximum multiplier in Electric Avenue, but everything else is pretty much the same. Granted, Electric Avenue does look a lot more attractive, but that’s about the only thing this game has going for it.
It wouldn’t be so bad, if it weren’t for the fact that All41Studios keeps copying other slots, perhaps adapting the theme, but otherwise straight up copying the gameplay. We can but hope that they will have an original idea one day because they manage to develop at least good-looking games.
