Theme and general information

Egyptian King clearly comes with an Egyptian theme. We’re inside a burial chamber or a temple. Sands are covering the floor, indicating that this is long past the time when the Egyptian King that gives this slot its name was the ruler of the land.

Two massive stone statues flank the reels on which we find low value playing card symbols, a scarab and a Horus eye as well as a number of masks of Egyptian Gods. We get snake god Apep, falcon-headed god Horus, Anubis with the head of jackal and Sekhmet, who is lion-headed.

The masks are colourful and fit in well with the theme. The graphics are superb and as far as Egyptian themed slots go, this one looks better than many of the more generic ones. The reel layout is also somewhat unusual as the reels are 3x4x4x4x3 rows high. That does not, however, give us more paylines in this slot. We only get 20, which is a bit of a shame.

Horus is worth the most at 25x our stake for 5 of his kind. Anubis pays 15x our stake for such a win. Sekhmet is worth 10x our stake and Apep still pays out 7.5x our stake for 5 of its kind.

There is an amulet scatter that lands only on reels 1 and 5 as well as a pyramid scatter that lands on reels 2, 3 and 4. The Egyptian King himself is the wild symbol.

Pharaoh Re-spins with multipliers

The first noteworthy feature in the base game are the Random Wilds, which the statue on the left can randomly add to the reels on any spin. Three or more wilds can help create winning combinations.

Then there are the Pharaoh Re-Spins, which are triggered when we land the amulet scatter on reels 1 and 5. We get 3 re-spins and wild symbols with multipliers of up to 3x are added to the reels. On every re-spin, the wild will wander around the reels before it settles in a random position. However many wilds are added to the reels, they will stay on the reels for the next re-spin as well and keep shuffling around.

Free Spins with symbol removals and extra wilds

Landing the pyramid bonus scatter on reels 2, 3 and 4 will give us 10 free spins. Now the left statue may add a wild randomly to the reels, which will become fixed in its place. When that happens, the lowest value symbol on the reel gets removed permanently (there is a row of all symbols that can be removed above the reels and you can see which ones have already been eliminated). Additionally, the statue on the left may add a random 2x or 3x multiplier to any wild landing on the reels.

Whilst we won’t get a new wild and symbol removal on every spin, you can expect 5 or 6 wilds added and as many low value symbols removed.

Some impressive wins are possible this way. Free spins cannot be retriggered, but one more spin is added if you get a wild on the last free spin.

Verdict: A high-potential slot with worthwhile features

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Egyptian King is 96.32%, which is excellent. The volatility is very high, of course, but if you manage to hit any of the features, the game can also show true potential. Indeed, the maximum payout is 8,752x our stake, which is very good.

Egyptian King looks great and it doesn’t get boring. The pace is nice and the features solid. It’s not reinventing the wheel (or reel in this case), but you get some good gameplay here and if you like slots with Egyptian themes, Egyptian King is a good addition to try out.
