Theme and general information

Dynamite Riches comes with a Gold Rush theme. You could also classify this as a mining slot if you prefer. Either way, there are several slots with this sort of theme, where are taken back to the times of the great Gold Rush in the Wild West. Here we are inside a mine with an old prospector.

Graphically, we’re not looking at the most sophisticated slot Red Tiger has ever created. Not by a long shot. The mine is the backdrop for the reels, on which we can find card suit symbols shaped as gems as well as mining-related symbols such as a helmet with a lamp, a bag full of gold nuggets, a pickaxe and shovel and a lantern with scrolls (or maps).

The miner himself is worth the most with 15x our stake for 5 of a kind. He already pays for two of his kind. The bag of gold nuggets is worth 10x our stake for such a win. The other high value symbols pay between 4x and 7x our stake for 5 on a payline.

Unlocking four modifiers

You will notice four locked symbols above the reels and below that a stick of dynamite with a fuse. The wild, which only makes rare appearances, is a bundle of dynamite, which is added to the fuse. When that happens, the fuse burns down just a little and we keep on spinning to wait for another wild to show up.

Each wild will shorten the fuse a little more until the dynamite finally explodes and thereby unlocks one of the reel modifiers:

• Detonator – Explodes all low-paying symbols off the reels, leaving only the high-value ones.
• Random Wilds – Rains random wilds onto the reels in the shape of gold barren.
• Compass Multiplier – A random multiplier of up to 10x is added to your next win.
• Mega Wilds – 2×2 to 3×3 mega wilds can land on the reels for big wins.

These features are applied to the spin they are won on, though once unlocked, they can randomly be triggered later on as well.

Free spins with random modifiers

The scatter, a mining cart full of gems, needs to land three times on the reels for the free spins to be triggered. When that happens, we get 8 free spins. A fourth scatter would add +2 spins and a fifth scatter would add another +2 spins to that.

During the Gold Spins, the four modifiers can come into play on any spin randomly. It is also possible to retrigger the free spins with 3 or more additional scatters.

Verdict: A slot that can be fun for a little while or tedious for a long while

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) for Dynamite Riches is 95.7%, which is below average and not that great. This slot is also quite volatile, although the hit rate also tends to be on the high side, which somewhat makes up for this. As it is, wins are usually frequent enough that you won’t feel as if you’re being robbed blind. The maximum possible win here is 5,000x our stake.

In our experience, it takes about 100 spins to unlock one of the reel modifiers. We needed between 300 and 400, when we played the game. Before all modifiers were unlocked, we triggered the free spins only once. Once all modifiers were unlocked, we triggered the free spins again, which made for a much more rewarding experience.

On the whole, however, the free spins were difficult to trigger and didn’t necessarily win us enough back to cover our losses. Dynamite Riches can be fun for a while, but in the long run it may also get tedious, especially once all the modifiers are unlocked but nothing much continues to happen beyond that. If you don’t have a good session on this slot, you are probably better off finding something a little more exciting with a higher potential.
