Dwarf Mine Slot Review
Released in March 2019, you can play this game at online casinos such as Casumo, Dunder or PlayOjo.
Theme and basic information
With Dwarf Mine we get a mining theme with a dwarf. There are a surprising number of similar slots that feature dwarves, mines, gems and rocks, though this one doesn’t take us into the fairy tale realm. Instead we’re going deep below the ground, digging with a pickaxe into hard rock to free precious gems and fill our pockets with treasure.
Once again, Yggdrasil Gaming delivers a great-looking slot. The dwarf on the right-hand side is all business and pulls his lever on every spin. It all looks really good and it sounds great as well. The background music builds some tension here, whilst we wait for bigger wins to hit.
On the reels we find a helmet, a pickaxe, a lantern and a spade as the high-value symbols. They all pay between 20 and 35 coins for 5 on a payline. The low-value symbols are the card suit symbols (hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds).
Finally, during four of the free spin features we get precious gems that are added as super high paying symbols. The red gem is the most valuable, paying out 100 coins for 5 on a payline. The blue one pays out 90 coins for such a win and the yellow one still pays out 80 coins with the green one coming in last with 70 coins.
There is no wild in the game, which you will hardly notice.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 125.00.
Expanded reels in the base game
The main highlight in the base game are the expanded reels. Generally, you’ll play on a 5×4 grid of symbols, which gives you 1,024 ways to win. That’s already pretty good, though it also means that wins are often on the small side.
Whenever a bonus scatter lands on the reels, the reels are expanded by one more row. Only then will any wins be paid out. If a second bonus scatter lands on the reels, the reels are actually expanded by two rows. This will give you more paylines and thus more chances at scoring a win.
It is also important to pay attention to the special gems, which are only revealed when the reels expand in the base game. Those gems (in green, yellow, blue and red) will be added to the counters on the left-hand side. You start your session with two each, which is helpful as it takes a while to collect the remaining three.
Five free spin modes
In fact, it takes roughly 100 spins to collect enough gems of one kind. Since they have different values, it also takes longer to collect the most valuable ones. But you will get there eventually, and it will be absolutely worthwhile.
Once you collect five of the crystals, you will launch the appropriate free spins where the collected crystal becomes a super high paying symbol. They already pay out for two on a payline, but since you’re playing on an expanded reel set of 5×7 symbols with now 16,807 ways to win, chances are that you will score more wins than that.
With the crystal collections, you only get 5 free spins at a time, but that’s usually enough in our experience.
Another way to get free spins is by simply landing three bonus scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5. This will give you 10 free spins on the expanded reel set. You only need one or two decent 5-of-a-kind wins here to make the free spins worthwhile. However, we found that the crystal collection free spins are more valuable because of the super high paying symbols that are added.
Interestingly, we once managed to collect 5 green gems to get 5 free spins with the green crystal. This was followed shortly thereafter by 10 free spins triggered with three bonus scatters. And only a few spins after that we activated another 5 free spins, now with the yellow crystals. That meant, within 20 spins we landed three free spin rounds, which was very cool.
Conclusion: Great slot that digs deep into your wallet
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Dwarf Mine is 96.8%, which is well above average and an excellent value. The slot has a medium volatility, which you can feel if you have a dry spell and the game starts digging into your wallet whilst you’re trying to dig for precious gems. Indeed, the game can be pretty relentless and it’s up to you to decide how careful you want to budget or how much you want to risk.
But when you win 60x your bet even without super high paying symbols, things tend to look up. And the regular free spins are triggered about every 100 to 150 spins. On top of that you get the crystal spins, which can be absolutely awesome. One of our best results yielded nearly 250x our stake in winnings and that in just 5 spins. Sure, you need to be patient when collecting those gems, but you won’t regret it.
